My wife got her passport back...
« on: March 02, 2007, 05:06:04 AM »
2 months ago my wife went to the police station here in Kharkov with her passport. After the wedding she decided to change her last name to my last name. This usualy takes 4-5 months. BUT my wifes sisters husband is a importandt and famous man here in Kharkov, so by his help (talking to the rigth peoples, paying some grynas..), so did it take only 6 weeks. My wife was very proud and happy when she has her new forreign passport and her new Ukrainian passport back :).

Was it her dream to have foreign surname or what?

sounds like such a brag to me , who cares what surname she got as long as she loves you it should not be such an important thing:P

I personally love my surname and am proud of it , well of course if I marry I will  need to change it, but I wont post it in the forum as an individual topic:P

Now tell me who and what did forced them to  "talk to the rigth peoples and pay some grynas.."  ::) as well as to "boast" about that "crime" actually on a board and be so proud with that  ::) System?

PS nothing personal and nothing for "discussion" here

Just a though in my screwed soviet mind which refuses to understand Americans who like to point thier "civilized" finger at how things are bad with corruption in FSU but use the first possability to pay bribes  if it suits their own interests ( Yeah , yeah the bribe was not paying directly by " american" but that American sees nothing bad ( but actually otherwise) in that way his wife got her new passport)

Thor is one of those good guys that is honest and doesnt mind sharing his good life and success with this board. He is an asset to this place and I would hope that he wouldnt be intimidated by a few for posting his story. I'm happy for your wife Thor and I wouldve paid the small price as well for the speedy turn around. There are some here that really have nothing to say or lend to this process. Why they even bother to post is beyond me. By the way,you are a very lucky man. Your wife is beautiful.

Are you sure you're not 12 jazzy? What is wrong with them being happy about this? So you don't like it because it's a "brag" to you? Would it be better for them to post how many chocolate bars they ate today? Now that's some important information that we all need to know right?

I'm sure I'll get a pissy response from you for saying "anything" to the all knowing goddess so please your great and wondrous queen forgive me for thinking that you are quite a pompous silly selfish little brat.

Elen,

Regarding speedy passports, even in the US there are companies that facilitate speedier processing for a hefty fee.

Sure in FSU the 'facilitator' may be a private individual and the 'fee' per se a private transaction and certainly not a bribe.

A bribe usually applies to someone trying to circumvent laws prohibiting the action in question.

Here Thor's wife applied for and received a passport.  Even if the process was somehow accelerated in my eyes it does not necessarily constitute a criminal act.

If the law there says 'one must wait a minimum of 99 days before a passport is issued' and Thor gave some gift that allowed him to receive it in 30 then I might agree somewhat with your view.

When I apply for RU visa's here I send my documents and 'fee' to an agent in Rome that processes the order.  If I need it quickly I pay more, above prices charged by the consulate for expedited service.  I give my money to the agent..  Even if the agent does not give the consulate one thin euro cent I have done nothing wrong or illegal.

Do you ask street vendors for a business license before buying an apple?

Not attacking, just putting things into proper perspective.

Talking to the rigth peoples and paying some grynas helped my wife to have her passport back very fast...This is just Ukraine :D
