Good Lord, I'm Russian/Ukrainian!
« on: March 10, 2007, 11:04:38 AM »
I was looking through my genealogy on the internet today and was quite shocked to find that one distant ancestor of mine was the Prince of Novgorod and he married the Duchess of Kiev.  I had known about my Western European origins but this was quite a surprise to me.  My wife tells me that this explains a lot about me and that I now no longer have the right to talk about the "Russian mentality" since I'm officially a member.  It also means I can't comment negatively about either Ukrainians or Russians without offending one side of my family or the other.  It's certainly a small world!  Now why the heck can't I learn Russian easier?

The heavy weight of your crown, maybe ;)? Your Majesty, surely there's no need for that, you can assign such menial tasks to some lowly court minion ;D.

With permission your highness, I would suggest that you make an Imperial order that all of your subjects speak English, instead of you learning Russian. Of course with that order, you may become the last Tsar of Russia.  ;D

Yes, I dutifully wish to be employed in the Imperial palace with the full responsibility of hiring all the chambermaids.  ;)

Lets not forget about the -training- of all those chambermaids. I fear that many will fail and therefore need replacement, on a continous basis.   ;D

I just need to meet with Putin and Yuschenko and explain to them my position and my rightful place in their countries.  Then I just need to seek out my minions and put them to work for the good of the Empire.  Wxman, I'm sure there will be a long line of applicants for the hiring and training of the chambermaids, but until I narrow down the field of who will manage the chambermaids, you can handle the chamberpots.

A perfectly constructed line.  Excellent...!!!  BTW I recken these family trees should all be chopped down.  I found quite a few years back that my lot on the paternal side trace back to "White Russia", modern day Belarus.  But alas, no "Blue Blood" in those lines.  :'(

You know what? All my ancestors were russian peasants. So when I read such post I get impressions that only my family cared for the billiones Russian Princes and Princesses.
Hey people, is there someone else whose ancestors peasants worked for all those prince and duchess too?
When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I didn’t speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

I think I'd be pretty quiet about this. Remember what happened to the last Tzar...

Kvinna,

As far as I know, I'm descended mostly from white European common folk stock who came to America to escape the rigid landownership laws of the "Old Country".  (There is a percentage of native American sprinkled in there too.)   The family joke was that we came from a long line of Irish horse thiefs who were one step ahead of the hangman.   In 1700's America, everyone could own land, in Europe everything belonged to the Barony.  They even had no concept of having a political voice in deciding anything about their future life, that came later.

There is no claim to royal kinship here.

Here's the lineage:  Ryurik Grand Duke of Novgorod and his wife Efenda had a son, Igor Grand Duke of Kiev, born in 0877.  He married Olga of Pskov Russia and they had a son Svyatoslav I Grand Duke of Kiev, born in 0942.  Svyatoslav never married and died at the young age of 31, but he had a son with Malusha of Lubech named Vladimir I "The Great" Grand Duke of Kiev.  He married Rogneda Princess of Polotsk Byelorussia and their son, born in 0980, was Yaroslav I "The Wise" Grand Duke of Kiev.  Yaroslav married Ingrid Olafsdotter Princess of Sweden and their daughter, born in 1036 was Anna Agnesa (Grand Duchess of Kiev) Yaroslavna.  She was a desperate FSU woman who wanted to find a nice European husband so she put her profile on the internet and found Henri I of France.  After going through many visa hassles, she arrivedin France on a fiance visa and they were married on May 19, 1051.  and they lived happily ever after - that is, until the French revolution.

My French royal ancestors married British Royalty and down the road my British ancestors immigrated to America in the early 1600's.

Hey Scott

I wonder if your people ever met mine. They came over in 1642 to New York from Holland.
