When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I didn’t speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

Kvinna,  Interesting story about Igor and Olga.  The records show that he was born in Novgorod and she in Pskov.  they were married in Pskov when he was 26 and she was 22.  They both died in Kiev, he at age 68 and her at age 88.

I though we were speaking about that Igor who appeared too greedy and was killed by turning into two parts by drevlyane  and that Olga who made revenge for such a dearth of her husband by burning villages of those people with a help of birds  ::)

Scott,

That is pretty impressive that you were able to trace your family history back that far.  You were fortunate that some of your ancestors were nobility, who for dynastic reasons were quite good about writing down who married whom when and what children they had.

My own research sort of ended in early New England where birth and death records became scarce, and there were no visa applications or other government documents that one can use.  They were ordinary people who left little trace of themselves.

It is probably easier to trace genealogy back to royalty or some such thing.   Everyone who was not of royal linage was probably killed in some kind of purge.  Just they had to get out of the country before the revolution or anyone could be killed.

Mine is the same way.  I can trace it back here to about 1810 but the courthouse in Londonderry burned down about 1850 and all the records there were lost

I traced my ancestry back far enough to apply for and receive an EU passport.  The earth is indeed round.

Wxman, I'm sure there will be a long line of applicants for the hiring and training of the chambermaids, but until I narrow down the field of who will manage the chambermaids, you can handle the chamberpots.

Watch what you eat, I am good friends with the chef.  ;D

I have no genealogy traceable to slavics but I am descended from a guy who helped halt the advance of Mongols in 1241.  Then he went on to crusade and conquered the area now known as the Kaliningrad Oblast, which incidentally is a part of Russia.  So I guess that's kinda close.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to find a wife in Kaliningrad, seems like a strange place to visit.

And how did he do that? Did he assassinate Ogdai in Mongolia as that is what halted the Mongol advance into Europe, and that was in 1242 not 1241 :)

Yes at the time of the battle he was just another noble from Franconia.  But I'm sure you already knew that.  He did his crusade work while Grand Master.  How more un PC can you get, a German crusader.  Good thing he didn't crusade against Russia!
