Bread and cereal boxes
« on: March 14, 2007, 02:19:02 PM »
Does your lady, spouse or stepchild leave pieces of half eaten bread everywhere? I have tried to tell them to refrigerate the bread and not to place it on a shelf. They sometimes do not place it on a dish or in a bowl. Apparently, they do not use crackers for soup, they use stale bread. Do you find cereal boxes missing and only see the plastic bag from inside? I think this is to conserve shelf space.

Nataly doesn't take the cereal out of the box, but it seems impossible for her to remember to close the cereal box, I tried to explain the meaning of the word stale, but she doesn't get it.

She doesn't leave half eaten bread, just empty tea cups everywhere  :)  It's ok, not like I don't have my annoying habits too, I love her all the same.  :)

Jinx & Clyde I can relate and Olga was laughing when I was reading this. Olga also leaves tea cups everywhere and has a difficult time with resealable bags Olga just tears them open and asks what is this line on the bag I have explained it is to reseal the bag  ::) In the grand scheme of things I don't sweat the small stuff I just laugh. I think eventually they all will figure it out  ???

I think this habit of throwing away cereal boxes is to conserve shelf space. I have to guess what kind of cereal is in the bag.

Nina is famous for leaving foodstuffs, teacups, and eating utensils pretty much everywhere.  I have come to accept that she is incapable of closing a box, resealing a jar, covering a dish or or doing anything related to putting things away.  ::)

It took almost 2 years to convince her of the necessity to refrigerate unused food as a means of preservation, but with typical Russian extremest logic she now thinks that the putting things in the 'fridge allows them to keep indefinitely.  At least once a week I remove something that crossed the line between foodstuff and science experiment. :puke:

Clyde,

One of my new jobs as a husband is patrolling the kitchen a few times each day, to:

-Bag any stray loaves of bread to keep the contents from going stale, and yes there are aways half-eaten slices!
-Ditto for the open jars of orange marmalade and Nutella on the kitchen table

It's funny because she's absolutely fastidious about everything else in our apartment, and truth be told I'm glad for it since when I get flack for forgetting to hang my coat up at least I have some ammunition!

I'm not exactly Mister Clean but do like to keep a tidy place. One woman from SPB that I had an ongoing relationship with said that she kept the kitchen 'like in surgery'. I liked that aspect.

I had the same experience when I first came here.  My wife would leave the bread out to get stale, leave food out uncovered or just placed uncovered in the fridge, etc.  I finally bought a bunch of zip-lock bags and tupperware and showed her how to use them and things have gotten a lot better.  In fact, now just about everything goes in the fridge.  I brought home some canned peaches, corn, etc the other day and later found them, along with other nonperishables, in the fridge.  She is pretty good about not leaving tea cups, etc around but we've found one basic difference between us.  She is fanatical about having a clean floor but doesn't mind clutter on the countertops.  I'm a nut about having the countertops cleared of debris but don't worry so much about a few crumbs on the floor.  We've reached a truce where she worries about keeping the floor clean and I worry about the countertops.
