Political crisis in Ukraine
« on: April 02, 2007, 03:55:22 PM »
I read today where President Yushchenko dissolved parliment today. The parliment majority headed by Victor Yanukovych flatly rejects the right of the President to do this. Sounds like it will be a real mess there with the Constituional Court having to decide the legitimacy of the Presidential decree.  I sense this will not go as nicely as the orange revolution, since this time Yanukovych and his allies were legitmately elected last year and formed the majortiy in Parliment. Even if new elections are held, one wonders if the current majority in Parliment will only increase in size. The only reason why I think Yushchenko is doing this, is that even if after new elections and the majority stays the same, the parliment will have to submit for the President's approval, the new Prime Minister. This time around Yushchenko would not approve Victor Yanukovych as PM. These two guys hate each other, and I can't imagine  Victor Yanukovych going along with new elections.
