Phil, You expressed it much more clearly and eloquently than I did.  Everyone seems to be consuming themselves into bankruptcy.  It's really hard for someone to understand the huge psychological pressure there is to consume in the US unless they have been away from it for awhile.  What one typical US family wastes in money and food in one month would support a Ukrainian family for a year.

Yeah, I'm having visions of Horns and Hind Ends for some reason... but, remember now,... this is stuff collected over a 25 year span... so she should understand that it will require 25 years to remove it ...can't screw up that parabolic symmetry.. :-)

Trust me, she can compress that time schedule immensely!!!!  I made the 'mistake' of indicating a stack of boxes and said I was going to "go through them and throw them out."  The next day they were gone!!!

DWFunk is right. The number 25 will come into play and that will be all the symmetry you get... 25 minutes that is... ::)

I find this pic quite disturbing.
http://www.mag-anak-photos.net/seaworld/sw4.jpg

Yet says volumes of how people in the U.S. will let themselves go. We ignore guys who are obese and attack the women. Realistically, it is much more difficult for men to gain weight then women.men burn more calories, are taller(so weight has more place to go, don't have kids which can mess up a body and metabolism. So guys have less of an excuse than women.

Still I am amazed to see so many fatso guys running around too. I sometimes watch court Tv and it seems the norm will be a whole police department is obese. These are guys that supposedly should protect us. I'm seeing guys doing construction just as obese with stomachs bigger than a pregnant women's. is'nt construction a physical job? sad!!! The women are worst but does not excuse guys. I make sure to excersice and keep my weight down because I FEAR looking like this one day.

Scott,

I was in Samara, russia for the past three weeks.  Flew back to USA yesterday.  I was sitting in the airport looking at people.  Even after only three weeks I definitely noticed people much larger than in Russia.  I flew into Atlanta and had a long lay over there.  Even at the airport where "upper" class people usually hang out, a lot of fat.

Just a minute ago I was outside on my front porch...  four teenage girls walked by...  ALL of them obviously overweight.

What the hell is going on here?

As you can see in my photo, I am in good shape.  This is one reason I opened my search worldwide to find a right sized partner now that I think about it.

I can't get off this kick about weight...  It pisses me off that such a high percentage of single AW are simply ...  well...  fat.

As for the other issues...  I often use my tools,  toys,  and gadgets; cook dinner for my son most days (single father with custody), and spend time with family and friends often.  I think I might be an exception in these regards.

I have noticed through all my travels in Europe  most people are thin fresh foods are bought daily without preservatives.  There is allot more exercise do to mass transit. I am blessed like you thin is in my Doctor says. Olga's gourmet cooking is so good I must admit I have put on about 10 lbs.

Legal,

I mean...  it's one thing if there are mitigating circumstances causing a person to be overweight.  For instance I have a woman friend who struggles big time with her weight due to hormonal problems.  But come on...  Don't these other people have a full length mirror?   Like they don't care about their health or bodies!

One time four years ago I noticed myself in the mirror getting love handles.  I freaked out and stopped eating that box of chocolate chip cookies every morning for breakfast.  Cut down on my sugar in my coffee...  it only took a few weeks to get myself back on track.

Thank goodness I have never had a problem meeting attractive women anywhere in the world.  But the options to meet the average woman are much less percentage wise here in the usa.  A thin AW thinks she's hot just because she is not fat.  Unfortunately it's true because of the line up and selection.

When I was in Russia with Elena we had three healthy meals every day.  Breakfast was tea and usually a deli meat and fresh vegetable.  Lunch we had McDonalds twice in three weeks but the rest of the lunches were fairly healthy.  Dinner was usually home cooked and fresh stuff.  We took turns cooking which was pretty cool.

We walked a lot although she has a vehicle.  It is also regular for her and her family to visit the local pool/sauna for excercise and a good steam.

I think Americans are begining to think it's ok to be obese.  There are stores all over for fat women. There is also some Big n Tall store nearby for men that goes up to a size 7XL!!!!!!. Obese women reffer to themselves as big and beautiful, obese guys think they are big and strong.

I'm so sick of seeing women with 3 chins and beefy arms. Men with guts as huge as a pregant woman with boobs to boot who cannot see their own feet while standing!. It's as though they are blending into 1 sex! why do so few people men and women(I will not give guys a free pass because their obesity  is worse since it takes so much more effort for men to be obese than women) have absolutely no pride. I can't think of too many people I know over the age of 40 who are not out of shape.

Back in my parents days there were a few older slightly chubbty ladies, but mostly the guys were all skinny or just a tad chubby. Now both men and women are as big as whales.Something has got to be done. I can't understand it when they say people are living longer than ever before. How can that be when 50% are obese? Can someone answer this puzzle for me?

In my parents time... women was skinny... almost no feminine form, only skin on bone... Before my parents time, women was very similar to these now...

Always, in the history, a round woman was the symbol of fertility, feminity, beauty... only one short periode in history, thin ( skinny, anorexique ) women was the model...

About man, it is a other story... they was strong and have become fat... yeah... sitting in a office each day cannot be compared to manual working in a farm...

PS: i am fat and i have no problem with it... what count is that i feel good myself in my skin... i have already see some of the thin men try to work with me in the garden... fall asleep at the mid day because they are so much tired... On the level of men, what is more bad, it is the loose of muscle, not the win of fat... so much guy are so weak...

There is fat in body, and then there is fat in spirit.  I dislike both.  I accept The negative observations posted here as the flat truth.

I was in Circuit City the other day:

There was a guy ahead of me. About my age.  20 pounds heavier.  Slouchy posture.  Designer sunglass.  Showy gold chain around neck and wrist.  A sport shirt, the kind you pay too much for at Nike).  Baggy pants that made him look like a middle aged white wrapper.  Tennis shoes that looked like stereo speakers, and a cell phone - the kind that cost a couple of $100 more because they have a yellow rubber band around the outside.

THEN on his side was his kid:

The boy was 30 pounds over weight, but he was only 10 - 11 (he was fat).  Same designer sunglasses.  similar gold chain (although not the same size as Dad).  A similar shirt and baggy pants.  The same tennis shoes.  AND (I am not shitting you) the same cell phone.

You could almost imagine the table discussion:  Son, I'm gonna buy Z,Y, and z this week end!  Dad, can I get one of these?

!PUKE!

Last week I was on Miami Beach with a girl from the FSU who did not know how to swim well.  I gave her instructions for about an hour (I know exactly what you are thinking:)  So, she became a barely good swimmer.  I jokingly asked her if she was ready to swim far out to the buoy.  I thought she would say NO.  She said YES.  We ended up swimming out to the buoy three times that day.

I love the sense of adventure and CAN DO attitude that America USED to stand for.  It is increasingly rare to find it in the land of the comfortable and numb.

CONVENIENCE.

We're too stuck on "convenience" and packaging and processed foods.  Food is not naturally designed to stay around and not decay or otherwise go "bad." so in order to keep food from "going bad" we put up with processing foods and they end up being turned into concoctions that we barely recognize.  Then we have to 'shape' it, 'color' it and add 'taste' to make this concoction appear like food again.  Then we end up with serious health consequences from the 'food' we eat.

I now spend more time in the produce section of the grocery store, some time in the dairy and meat departments and we end up skipping 85% of the store!

Well, Scott... interesting how good things can come from something as simple as a post of observations on an internet forum.

I thought a bit about this thread, and decided to make a few phone calls.  Within three hours, I found a senior center somewhat near to me who had an interest in some of the items..  I went to visit them and in the process found a new home for the workout equipment as their exercise area was skimpy at best (they sent a truck this morning to pick it up), and two of the older stereos with turntables went into other rooms of the center.  They share a single old computer for about 40 or so who actually use it.  If I combine all of the half assembled computers, I can build about 4 which are usable for email, internet access and simple games.  The old golf clubs have found a new home at a local golf course which has a program for teens (basically free golf classes and course time for those who qualify).

So, Mr. InCrimea,  your simple post on an internet forum of observations from the other side of the world has set in motion a few very small actions which will actually touch someone else in a positive way.

Pretty cool how that happens sometimes.  Thanks for posting.  You made a difference in people's lives you've never met.

Daveman You have made a big difference in those peoples lives. I think it is great what you did and I commend you.  I do things in a different way because of the business I am in and I humbly love the self gratification I receive when I am able to help someone without a single thought of asking anything in return. I do believe what comes around goes around not necessarily when we want it but eventually things come full circle.
You know Daveman you are actually growing on me   Simple acts of kindness. It cost nothing to be nice. Some of our readers could learn something from this but they won't due the fact they are blinded by there anti American attitude.

About muscle and men...we can start to lose up to 1/2 pound of muscle EVERY YEAR starting in our late 40's and early 50's...if we don't work those muscles. So it's really a matter of use it or lose it.

Legal, thank you very much for the kinds words.  I need to point out here though, that it has already come back around.  I needed to clean out this stuff, and they did it for me.  It was nothing at all on my part except for a few phone calls.  It was simply a win/win situation.  I could have sold that stuff at a yard sale, but it would have wound up in someone else's garage or basement doing exactly the same thing it was doing here.  More useless clutter and waste.  Perhaps now, it won't be wasteful.  Without Scott's observations, it would have sat here until continental drift moved it.

Plus it saved me from what would most certainly have been another spanking by a Russian woman sometime in the future.  ;)  I prefer the active love side of that relationship.  Those horns are sharp!

Really, this was nothing on my part.  Just moving something that was waste for me into a situation where it was not waste for someone else. This was win/win all the way.  :)

Dave

Can you imagine if everyone followed Dave's example?  Empty garages and full hearts.  Not such a bad trade.  If only there were a simple inexpensive way to send some of our surplus to Ukraine we would really see some lives changed.  Maybe there should be a new law that if you bring a Russian/Ukrainian wife to the US you have to ship anything she cleans up/throws out back to her homeland.

I read somewhere a few months ago that a growing number of Americans cannot park their cars in their garages because they have so much stuff.  I did not believe it at first, then I realized how many self-storage places there are around where I live, and I believe it.  It was not like that when I was growing up.
