I hope so because the last time I was in the white house I saw a couple of things that Olga and I would like for our home.
Condoleeza Rice for a piano recital ;)?

 :hairraising:

Now THAT would be a truly sad state of domestic and international affairs...

I'd stay in office just long enough to issue a few executive orders, abolish the IRS, abolish all perks for congress, make the visa process completely painless, fund research to find the "idiot" gene and perhaps develop some kind of vaccine, get Olga and Legal some cool furniture, and then resign and retire somewhere with a group of female secret service agents.. hmmmmmm  I like that last part a lot!

And it was wonderful to be in a place that, for all the stories about 'road rage', most people had sufficient knowledge required to properly operate and park a motor vehicle!  At no time did I see anyone park on the sidewalk or a crosswalk, make a left turn from the extreme right lane, or back up along a busy road because they missed an exit. ::)

Try that in St Petersburg FL (or anywhere in central or south FL) any time from Thanksgiving until Easter, you'll feel like you're right back "at home" in Russia.

We would need a good price on container shipping.

LEGAL

Acutally it's not that expensive to ship via container.  Shipping costs are based not on weight, but on the amount of space (in cubic meters) that the shipment occupies.

My stuff clocked in at 1.3 cubic meters... about 18 boxes, guitar cases and tools... and counting all shipping costs, customs and delivery costs, it came to just a little over $1,000 door -to-door... Not bad in my book.

Hey Phil,  did you have to pay a tax on the value of the items to keep them in the country?  Is there a difference between something that is obviously personal items as opposed to something that would be perceived as "could be used for business"?  What about something a car or motorcycle?

Sorry for all the questions, just really piqued my curiosity.

A visit to a typical supermarket made my jaw drop just from the sheer selection of items.  But look out back and see the huge amounts of food simply tossed away because it didn't sell that day.

Restaurants were no better.  On a trip to Las Vegas I saw the feeding troughs buffets stocked with huge amounts of... everything, most of it going uneaten.  What happens to all of that shrimp, lobster, steak, salad and all the rest once it's swept off the table?  As I understand it the casinos can't give it to food banks or shelters for fear of liability.  An absolute tragic waste.

Phil, I cannot speak for all areas of the U.S. but, where I live most of the 'so called wasted food' is under contract from local farmers ie; hog farms to feed livestock to help offset the increasing price of corn.........    Phil and Scott, you might not see so much so called good stuff thrown in the trash....for the fact that most of the sh!t is made in China....and more than likely was broken before the new owner even took it out of the 'box' :brightidea:

Dave

As a 'personal effects' shipment I paid a whopping 27 rubles (!)  'import tax'  Many of the items could have been construed as being for later sale (like 300 CDs, 1,000 records and all manner of electronic equipment and musical instruments) but weren't.

Of course I did have someone on the inside who helped guide my stuff through the Russian customs system... Don't even think about trying it yourself, some things are best left to professionals and this is one of them.

Amazingly, absolutely nothing was stolen, broken or damaged in any way.
