I have a couple questions too.
- Does this forum help RW to find their "better half"?
- Have there been more positive than negative experiences?
- Where can I read about guys' who traveled to Ukraine/Russia?
(even though I was married for 8 years, my husband never got a chance to see my country and my home town)

Olena,

I think it's fair to say RWD can help find a better half but usually it seems to be through advice and support.  There's no real funciton for matchmaking but there are several members that are single and looking.  Of course the married men might have friends too.   ;)

Something I like about RWD is the diversity of opinions and experiences people have had.  You'll see many successful couples and then you'll see some men that have had a really tough time.  So many of the International Dating websites seem to paint this rosey picture of relaitonship perfection.  Of course relationships are (or can be) hard work.

Have a look in the Trip Report section of the discussion board.  You'll find plenty of real experiences from the past few years and probably some interesting insights into Western Men's travels through the Former Soviet Union.

Cheers,

Kuna

Jazzy,
You wrote,"...which is cool to my mind."

Very cool baby, very cool. You're starting to learn American English slang that has its roots in the 1950's and 1960's "beat" culture, the culture of the beatniks, poets, musicians and deadbeats. This is how the word "cool" got its start in American English slang.

Stay cool,
Sohkay

Jazz,
You're now into 1970's slang with "groovy".
You're slang is progressing by decades!
Keep up the good work.

Jazzy,
Don't take my comments as criticism. It's wonderful to hear (read) you exploring the language.

A friend of mine is a tenured professor of literature, an accomplished author and radio host. He's really quite brilliant about the English language. He once told me that proper English is the English that best communicates what it is you are thinking and feeling.

In America, many still use the word "cool", though the word "groovy" is currently not used as much, unless musicians use the term "groove", which refers to the rhythmic underpinning or feel of a piece of music. That song has a good groove to it, or a cool groove.

Be groovy and stay cool!

Slang is such a regional issue that there are words used in parts of Australia that others haven't ever heard.

Example:  Gamin is very common in Townsville (Far North Queensland). I think it probably comes from aboriginal children telling someone they were just gaming or joking with them.  It's used nowhere else so is a sure giveaway if someone uses it when in other cities in Oz.

I remember years ago people in Adelaide dropping the word "Excellent" into every second sentance... "Excellent ay"

In Christchurch, New Zeadland you'll often hear people talk about "Wee Katie" or "My wee Katie"... Probably because of the strong Welsh influence in the city.

Jazzy,  don't stress about the slang... Where ever you live you'll hear different people using different slang and others will evolve overtime.  You're English is great...  most of us could only wish our Russian was as good.   ;D

Cool is still commonly used in Brisbane and Groovy is still used within parts of the Brisbane community (but not everywhere).  Example:  Lounge music being referred to as "Groovy little tunes".

Dear Sohkay and Kunochka

:) of course I will still use the word cool :))))

thank you for complimenting on  my english skills but as for my level it should be much much much much more better than it is now, cos I have been learning english since 7 years old  and still do so many crazy mistakes and sometimes can not find the proper words and just calc from russian , so do not compare other girls to me who are trying to learn english now , cos they might speak the same level as me but the thing is I was learning it almost all of my life  and still have mistakes and they can learn it like for couple of years on some nice level, so they are much more better:)

I know in the Uk they still use the word combination  hunky -dory:) I like this word  the most:)

Jazz,
Your English will improve by leaps and bounds when you are in an English speaking environment. Everything will be hunky-dory. It'll be 23 ski-doo, cat's pajamas and bees knees.

Okie dokie pokie.

Catch you later...alligator.

Welcome to the board Olena.  I am sure others can learn alot from you.  Yes, in time people do change and sometimes grow apart and you look at the one you once loved and see a stranger.  Wish you the best in your future, Cheers,tim360

olena-
 welcome,, !!
and yes there are many positive success stories also..
and many who visited or even lived some time in the FSU or Russia..

one thing though -
is that some of us married folks had our stories awhile ago,
and so the reports are not even in the archives or files anymore..
or they where on other sites..
the 'net changes quickly!!

the worst thing for me was when he came back after being gone for 1 year and it's like starting over. You don't know who this stranger is and it takes time to get used to each other again.
We did communicate thru e-mails and phone.
???
