I booked with these people last time and they were very efficient, now they are not answering my emails to arrange airport pickup next week and the head office in Canada are not picking up the phone, I fear they may have gone out of business, anyone know please?
I may have to try and book something else at short notice, any advice on apartments that may be available at short notice? I leve on Tuesday 1st May so it's getting a bit desperate.

As from Today they have a 4 days holiday in Ukraine and Russia.... so bear that in mind.

Ukrainian companies take their time to confirm things.......have a good trip.

Wiz

I just heard about this 4 day holiday. What is it? Anything to do with Yeltsin's passing?

Viking,

My Girl actually has 9 days off (returns to work on the 10th).  I don't think she's mentioned the name of the holiday to me but it seems equivalent (but much more liberal) to Australia's May Day Holiday... or Labour Day.

Correct, it is Labor Day, or Labour Day, and it's also called May Day.  Throughout Europe, the holiday is celebrated.  Many countries, including Ukraine, hold multi-day celebrations including parades, shows and other patriotic and labor oriented events.

In the USA, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September.  Several attempts have been made to move it to the international date, but failed.

Expect many businesses and services to be closed Monday...

Thanks guys. I wish we (the states) had more than just a Monday off for our Labor Day. Although this labor day for me is shaping up to be something special.

Kuna, they have International Labor day on 1 May and Victory Day (WWII) on 9 May.  That is why some of them take more than a week off at this time.  Some officially get the time off from their work, and others just don't show up for work during this time period.

Those in some countries take off many more days from work than people in USA (can't speak for other areas), and then want foreign aide help from 'rich westerners' who work many more hours per year!!
I am a sex tourist who is driven by the hunt with no emotion or empathy and suffer from Satyriasis, Don Juan Syndrome and Madonna-Whore complex (but on alternating days) with confidence issues and many other issues. I suffer loneliness with no family, friends or money.  I have ED and orgasm problems

Pike,

Apparently some UKR private companies send the staff off on unpaid leave for the 10 days (but she worked some decent hours leading up to it so I don't see the benefit).

When we were talking last night I found out it's unpaid leave too... I guess the Industrial Relations laws are VERY different to Oz.

Wayne,

My girl told me the same... When we were talking last night I said something like "You're very lucky to have 10 days off" and she said, "Nooooo, I'm not lucky.  It's not paid holiday".

In typical fashion she refused my offer of sending a little money over to help because of the lost wages but I'm learning not to ask... just send - and will do so tomorrow.

Even when we were in Ukraine together she didn't want to take money to reimburse her for train travel etc...  She says it feels wrong to take money but after we marry she'll be happy to "take all".   :o

Anyway, her family arrives from Moscow in a few days and I know she's excited about that.  She's spent the weekend madly cleaning the apartment from top to bottom and buying groceries so her mother can cook her favourite food for her.

I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon and going up to Moscow with her.

 ;D
