University transfer of courses from the FSU to the USA
« on: May 01, 2007, 09:23:32 AM »
My wife Marina is working on a second degree here in the USA.  The university is very happy to transfer applicable courses in, saving her several semesters of study.  However, they need the catalog description of her translated transcript--it just shows the title of the course.

Does anyone know if FSU universities have catalogs with 2 or 3 line course descriptions like US universities do?  And if so, how can you access them?

Simoni,

My wife has two degrees from the FSU and had her degrees confirmed and translated by WES. When it came time to apply these credits to the US based University she applied to, the adviser who evaluated her diplomas looked mostly at a document provided by her FSU University.  This is a very fancy (it has one of those tiny ribbons around the spine  :)) , handwritten document from the FSU University in English which describes the course, her grade and a line or two about the course content. Babushka got this document for her daughter by specially asking for it at her daughter's University. It was sort of expensive (I think it was about $ 200.00 USD) but well worth the expense because it saved cost and time for tuition.

Maybe you could translate the course descriptions from the US.?  We have found that the US University my wife applied to was generous in giving her credit for courses already taken.

Thanks, Voyageur...

I will give the translation a shot, with assistance from Marina.

I think the university wants to give her credit for much of the coursework, leaving her to mostly do major stuff.

If I don't succeed, we'll send babushka to the university :-)

Cheers,

We also used WES - and they have a list of the required documents for them to do an assessment (country-specific) at their website (www.wes.org). In Olya's case, she had her Mom visit the schools in Ukraine to retrieve the detailed transcripts, and then send them to us, so that WES could make their evaluation.

The WES evaluations have not been questioned at any of the colleges and universities Olya has attended.

Thanks for the link to wes.com, Voyageur and Dan.

It looks like the solution!
