SNOW !!!!!
« on: May 02, 2007, 10:58:43 AM »

Snowwwwww, oh noooooo.   :o

Just got an e-mail from eastern Ukraine.  2C degrees  and snow!

Two day's ago client wrote from St. Pete, said it was snowing.

Ok, guess I better pack a coat after all. This is not suppose to be happening IN May!

Two years ago I thought it was just a quirk, once every 20 years type thing. May 9th in Kharkov and I told all the guys about how wonderful the weather would be and of course no one brought anything warm.  First day in Kharkov and were ALL at the big market buying coats.

Last year the first of May, weather is wonderful.

Hopefully a warming trend is on the way. I will be in Eastern Ukraine in 2 weeks. So far everytime I have been to Ukraine it has been warmer than normal.

In the UK, we have just completed the warmest April since records began (350 years ago).  Ave temp. +3.5C over average.  And yes, once we used to have snow showers in April.

In Simferopol the highs are in the mid to upper 50's and the lows in the mid 40's and it's expected to be up in the mid to upper 60's next week.  This winter was one of the warmest on record and we only saw a couple of snowfalls over 4 inches around the middle of March  .You guys are just visiting the wrong parts of Ukraine!

Scott, the guys I'll be with next week are coming to meet the greatest number of ladies possible in there respected short times. And I need to clarify the greatest number of ladies seeking marriage to foreign men where we have a great pool of honorable marriage agencies to work with.   Thus, no Simferopol.

Simferopol/Sevastopol/Yalta are wonderful place's to take special ladies of interest almost year round and as such has it's strength. But just not enough solid agencies in Crimea to support enough men in my opinion.

Jack, relax, I was just talking about the weather.  There was no attempt to sabotage your trip plans.

I do agree that there is a shortage of agencies based in Crimea, and having very little experience with them I couldn't judge their quality.  I have seen the profiles of quite a few ladies here posted, but those seem to be through agencies that have their offices someplace else.  I can certainly vouch for the fact that there is no shortage of beautiful, classy, eligible ladies here.  That may be to some advantage to some men who want to try someplace that isn't frequented so often by Western men.

You are right that Crimea is most often a destination for men who have met someone special and want to go away with them somewhere.  There's just a heck of a lot to see there.

And do you know guys that such kinda changing of weather  like snow in late spring and +10 in winter ,are due to  different bombings and missiles being flown into atmosphere, I read about it in the newspaper and read on some info site, it was proved by scientists that  such weather caprices are cos of frivolous thinking of mankind about our nature :(

No, these variations in climate are due to normal cycles in weather that occur due to a variety of causes, one of the least of which is human influence.  I laugh at this because in the 1970's they were warning about a new ice age and now 30 years later they spout off about global warming.  Given the choice, I prefer warm over cold.

Actually Jazzy Scott is right for the most part.
But once you add in the pollution that we have been spewing into the atmosphere for a couple of hundred years & even more so in the last century with burning fossil fuels etc. It has only compounded matters. Unless we clean up our act & start treating mother earth with a little more respect, we may find that a third world war is the least of our worries. :(

I don't want to debate global warming nonthis thread.  I'll just state my general philosophy.  Once anyone has been shown to deliberately misrepresent any one thing, it is established that he is a liar and all subsequent statements should be considered in that context.  With Al Gore and his cronies, that has been clearly shown, so Oscar or no, I can't believe a word he says.  He is making a lot of money on this and I think that is his primary motivation.  As with all things, the statement, "Follow the money", rings true.

I wasn't discussing politics.  Al Gore is an Oscar winning producer and would be scientist, not a politician.

Science is not 100% in agreement with global warming and definitely not 100% in their agreement of its causes.  As those studying this issue full time disagree, I'm sure there will be those on this board who disagree about it as well, so no sense debating on it.  I sure like the idea of global warming a lot better than the predictions these same scientists were making of a new Ice age coming back in the 70's.

There has been much research on global warming which I have participated in over the last 21 years, and it isn't just a simple cause and effect per Al Gore's solution. Yes, global warming is occurring. That is a consensus, but what is the major cause, is still up for debate.  CO2 emissions do increase the greenhouse effect, but how much does it increase the effect from a natural cycle of global warming is still a big guess. Many studies have shown that we are increasing the effect of global warming by dumping less pollution into the air in the form of particulates from coal, etc which produces soot. These particulates actually reflect sunlight which cools the earth, and since we are dumping less into the atmosphere, in theory the earth should warm up. Were the 70s, which were much cooler than normal, enhanced by the high level of particulates in the atmosphere? Possible. Other studies are showing that through ice core samples from Greenland, that ice ages rapidly develop after a big spike in global warming. Ice sheets melt in the north atlantic which causes a large amout of cold fresh water to interact with the gulf stream circulation. Since cold fresh water sinks, it actually distrupts the gulf stream circulation and in turn prevents the warm gulf waters from moving northeast towards western europe, which will signifcantly cool the continent.  This creates much colder winters, with much more snow than rain, and over time allows the glaciers to expand south over the northern hemisphere.
In fact, ice age periods are quite common and in general last a lot longer than the warm periods. So take the mouthpieces of the alarmists with a great deal of scrutiny. Hype makes the media. Just like the hype of asteroids hitting the earth. They will hit the earth again, just like there will be periods of global warming an cooling. The most abnormal type of weather, is in fact, normal weather, as normal weather is nothing more than the average of the extremes. And where do the greatest extremes occur? North of 25 degrees lattitude, where a large number of the world population lives.

So, we can agree to disagree on the cause of global warming. Perhaps then we can agree that the planet is getting warmer, and this means we must adapt to survive.

Look at how the Canadians are attempting to deal with a warming-induced beetle infestation that's wiping out a large portion of B.C.'s timber industry...starts at 29:20 on The National (great news camerawork, by the way)...and the problem is heading East! (Also note that the story before is about Canada's mint, that because of innovation, is actually turning a profit for Canadian citizens as foreign countries are contracting with the mint to produce their coins.).

Any logical scientist would admit warming is occurring. Meteorological records prove it as records in many sites go back over 300 years and are very accurate. However, as stated, the causes are many and still can not be pinned down to one cause above all others. I don't think it ever will as there are too many variables. More volcanoes would likely cool the earth, and a major eruption would cool the earth significantly for many years. Nature will adapt. If global warming continues, new opportunites will open when other doors close. More crops will be grown further north to replace areas that become too warm and dry. More rain will fall in some places, less in others. It really isn't the end of the world or of humanity.

Great posts wxman.  Sometimes people tend to give the most credibility to whoever is shouting the loudest, right or wrong.  I'm like you, a common sense scientist.  I look at facts, not hype and don't jump onto the bandwagon of whatever the current popular "cause" is.

Quite. Alpine glaciers have been retreating for the past 70 years, IIRC (and the rate has been accelerating steadily), the altitude at which certain vegetable species can grow is also on the increase, and the warmer Mediterranean is seeing the increasing appearance of tropical fish.

I think the main question is : "Can we do something about it ?". Because Nature has its own slow times, which are not always comfortable/convenient for humanity, even though it may eventually survive.

How about a few million extra immigrants fleeing north, to escape deteriorating farming conditions (and this means Mexico, too ;))?
