Degree Equivalency
« on: May 11, 2005, 03:26:06 AM »
Hi All,

Has anyone been through the degree equivalency process?  Does anyone have any recommendations into what service to use?  Cost?  Any horror stories?

Thanks in advance for your helpful advice,

Todd

All depends on occupation you are going to have (doctors are the most hard case), on University you graduated from (some well know Russian Universities don't need in equivalency process. Translation of diploma into English is enough) and on your employers (they may have a special "demand" for you would finished some courses and in those educational institutes which employers recommend to you. Or they may trust you only with your word that you finished institute and do have a degree)

Any way for any case you should have a translation of you diploma into English with a list of ALL courses you have studied and mentioning how many hours you spent at them. Even if it was the History of КПСС)

Hey Todd,

You might start here:

http://www.naces.org/

It's where we found Josef Silney & Associates. They did the evaluation of Liliya's teaching degree (they were FL Dept. of Ed. approved) and we were quite happy with their services. As Ellen said, each field has it's own criteria by which they judge these credential evaluation services, as well as each state's Dept. of Professional Regulation, so make sure the company you ultimately choose will be accepted by those you'll eventually submit it to. Many companies prefer to do their own translation of the documents, this will add @ $200 to the bill. We paid $450.00 all together IIRC. Also a tip, if they offer (even at additional cost) get at least 3 original evaluations/transcripts as most places you apply to will want an original, not a copy.

Todd,

Yes, we have been through this process.

Typical cost to have a Russian degree evaluated in terms of an American degree will cost around $125-200, and up, depending on the complexity of the transcripts and the speed with which you wish to get the job done.  A straight forward BA can be done in about 3-4 weeks for about $125, while a MS in Physics and Math will cost more and take longer.

Jet gave you a good starting point, but you could just Google "Foreign Diploma Evaluations", and see what pops up.

Good luck.
