I need a translator in Dnepropetrovsk
« on: May 23, 2007, 08:52:56 PM »
Well...  I'm on my way back to see my girl in Dnepropetrovsk and while I'm there I will need the services of a translator for a few hours.

I want to take my future MIL for lunch to have a 1 on 1 discussion with her but we don't share a common language...

Does anyone have contact details of a translator in Dneproperovsk that they've used before???

I don't think it'll matter if it's male or female... or whatever age.  I'd like someone to just help us communicate with ease.

So your plans are to communicate "with ease" with your future MIL?  I can see those beads of perspiration forming now!

Just kidding.  Actually I think it's a great idea.  I was in Ukraine for a few months before I was able to communicate with my MIL and that was using the translation program on my computer. Even then, it opened up a whole new world of understanding between us.  It's also great to hear the truth about your future wife's childhood.  ;)

Kuna, sorry I don't have a clue about a translator, but just wanted to say I think that's a great idea. Should be an interesting event all the way around.  Get those great childhood stories too!

Kuna,
I don't know if you want to go this route, but maybe you can use one from the cindy agency, since they're located there.  You can check their website, I know they charge by the hour.   www.cindyagency.com
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.

Phantom,

Thanks...  but "like Mama like daughter"...  My future MIL didn't want to waste money on a translator...  she said she would ask all question through My Girl and my Future Brother-in-law and trust me... she didn't hold back.

I mentioned in another thread that her main concern is the distance...  not because her daughter will be moving so far away but our children will be so far away.  I explained we would return to Moscow as regularly as possible (within reason) and of course she will be welcome for extended stays in our home during special occassions (births etc).

She was happy with this but reiterated that she wanted her grandchildren to know their grandmother...

We also communicated "reasonably" well when alone but it was more through hand gestures etc. I can understand men who think language doesn't matter... I imagine you could convince a girl to marry you if you don't speak the same language but a detailed conversation like we had through family members just wouldn't have been possible.

Future MIL and I had a few opportunities to be alone... Once when she showed me through old photos of My Girl...  Once in the kitchen when I returned from shopping and she insisted I sat and ate lunch "until it hurt"... and once when everyone was out of the house (I was having a nap), she'd come home and gathered my clothes from the bedroom and was washing them when I woke up.

That woman NEVER stops!

Agreed.  I used Larisa in both Dnepropetrovsk, and also as a guide/translator and trip organizer in Kiev.  She is very professional, and if you handle yourself well, she can advise you in many highly useful ways.  Since she lived for a number of years in the US, she understands America and American men fairly well.  She is as good as they come.
