Senatorial help?
« on: May 19, 2005, 09:12:49 AM »
Just curious - does it help to try and engage your Senitor for assistance with regards to hurrying the K-1 process along?

I haven't a clue how, but my old interpretor got married in Kiev on April 15th, and has her Visa Interview scheduled for June 7th!!!  Her husband lives in Texas and must have found some strings to pull...

And here I am upset it has taken since March 7th.

When did you file?

The Embassy site says in so many words they are obliged to answer the inquiry and proceed as normal.

Maybe you should wait until a month or two have passed and you have received no responses.

No first hand experience here.  I have read posts where very delayed paperwork was speeded up greatly by the intervention of a Senator or congressman on behalf of a constituent.  If you are a resident (and vote)  you should have no problem having your Senator or Congressman assist you,  irregardless of what party they are.  Thats why we pay them so much.

Clarify:  Only if things are delayed or something is wrong would I suggest calling.  Not for a rush job.  Of course,  if you are good friends with the guy?

During our long, long, long wait I contacted three senators and one represenative, in each case they were basically told to "go piss up a rope". The BCIS doesn't bow to political pressure.

It's a waste of time.

goombah, no offense intended at all, but spelling is a pet peeve of mine. if it's in one of my posts, it is because of a typo or when i am in a hurry and do not proof read.

it's senAtor..  i would not point it out if it was not such a common word.

Word!

Couldn't resist, it's what all the young folks say.

I think it means the same as right on, out of sight or far out.

Kevin,

  Contacting a politician may actually
impair your process speed. I'd leave well
enough alone, unless they grossly exceed
normal timelines, in which case it still
probably won't help.
I watched my mailbox like a hawk for many
months - the first day it slipped my mind,
the approval showed up. Hang in there.

vaughn, that was my feeling about this exactly. i don't trust any of them to do anything for me. i think they would just complicate the matter. i got my k-1 in three months through the kansas office. canceled it though...;-(  the relationship didn't last as long as the visa process, which might be part of the reasoning for the delays. i kind of doubt that, i just think it is a good example of our tax dollars not at work.

I once knew a dyslexic person who was a statistician. He didn't misspell too many words but he inverted his letters a lot. Some people just can't spelll and it maybee doo to fast typing and no spell chick.

hi clyde..yeah,  thought maybe i jumped the gun too fast but i saw he spelled it the same way in his post. i know spelling on a board is not that big of a deal. i certainly do not put the care and attention into spelling on the board as i do something business related, but what the heck.

i am sure a lot of very intelligent people are poor spellers.

Goombah,

From the Embassy website:

Q. Will writing to my Representative in Congress or my Senator speed up the process?
A. Every American citizen may write to Congress about any matter of concern. We reply to all Congressional inquiries. Inquiring through Congress will not, however, speed up the process. Inquiries that you send yourself will receive the same answers we would send to Congress. As a matter of policy we ask all petitioners to limit their inquiries to one channel of communication. If you choose to inquire through Congress, please do not send duplicate inquiries directly to the Embassy.
