Small world Daveman, I work in Alpharetta off Windward Parkway! As far as unforseen tragedy, you are correct! Yesterday I got an email saying that her money for the trip hadn't arrived, and she needed $2000 to get to the US. I wasn't surprised, thanks to all you guys, but wasn't sure what I wanted to say...if anything at all...so I didn't reply. Today I got another email, saying she is in Moscow and has borrowed most of the money she needs but still needs another $300, and asked me to send it Western Union to the attention of Elizaveta Sominskaya. She gave me a phone number for her (she is supposedly with the agency), and her number is 718-874-9822, which is, you guessed it, an unlisted number. She is saying she knows I am sceptical (my wallet is shut tighter than a clam!), but that she'll pay me back when she gets here, this is our only chance to be together, blah, blah blah. I haven't decided what, if anything, I will reply. She was supposed to leave tomorrow, so I'm fully expecting a phone call from her to try to convince me to send money...NOT HAPPENING!!!!

UM...  JH3...

You are still referring to this person or group of people as "HER".  It is not a her, not a she.  It is probably a man that might have one or more women that he knows.  Might be someone in Nigeria.  Who knows - who cares.  Why respond?  This is bold face scam and there is no need for you to do anything except protect yourself.

Press delete on your emails and put her address on block.  You've wasted enough of your time and energy on this fake already.

Go to www.elenasmodels.com and get a membership.  Then talk to REAL FSUW women.  You will not be dissapointed.

jh3, the story is well worth putting in some antiscam sites with the used name and address, and the scam scenario. of course.

I am especially sad to hear that the scammer used an exchange program scenario, given the fact that those programs are widely used by lots of talented FSU people, including my friends and myself.

I read the begining of jh3 post (I got an email from a girl in Russia) through to the end. From his quest to find clarity to his questions and concerns to the obvious scam discovery. Most of the people here saw it for what it was and predicted the events accurately. While Lily opted to defend the possible honesty of the venture, jb called it straigtht away with out sugar coating. I still agree with Lily's way of thinking that people are innocent until proven guilty but the cost of guessing wrong can be high.

I posted a very similar event, mine started later of coarse. She was kind genuine and a doctor at a hospital. jb called it a scam as well. I didnt want to believe him and leaned towards Lily's phylosophy of being carefull but see how it develops. My girl also has no phone and she is a doctor. I read somewhere in this forum that a man in Russia posted that "every girl over the age of 10 has a cell phone and if they say they dont they are lieing". I see red flags all over now.

It would appear that jb has properly identified my problem as well. As sad as it is, Im now thinking he is right. I so much wanted to think he was overly cynical but it is what it is.

Some other small indicators I picked up from reading this sight is the photo name. She sent me one that was her in a bra. The title was bra.jpg. "Bra" isnt a Russian word is it? And why would she title her own picture in English on her computer or flash drive. What disappoints me most is that I was fooled. Well not entirely. I joined this site for answers and I found them.

There are some great posts on this sight. If someone takes the time to read them and use what information they need out of them, the light really starts to come on. I just joined this site yesterday. I have been reading posts for 5 hours today. It was time well spent.

Ill pretty much be a lurker from here on in.

TC,

You won't learn much as a lurker,,, far better to become proactive and learn 1st hand rather than 2nd hand.

I'm sorry you think I let the air out of your balloon,,, cynically.   I would rather you think I guided you out of a sense of brotherhood.  Regards the Doctor, the jury may still be out on her, though I doubt it.  I'd much rather see you plan a trip to Russia or Ukraine to find these things out for yourself.

As I mentioned to someone recently,,, there is cream to be skimmed from the top of FSU womanhood,,, there is also a distinct element of trailer trash to be sorted through to find the jewels.  Don't be fooled by a pretty photograph, most likely the person who sent it to you isn't real.  Fat Yuri is good at scamming the unsuspecting man.  If we have a fault, it is trusting too much.  Yuri knows this and plays to our weakness.

Come play with us,,, if nothing else it's good clean entertainment.

In a recent conversation someone said something along these lines to me.  God was smart enough not to leave the worlds gemstones lying around on the surface of the earth.  You usually need to dig quite deep to find them and generally only the smarter/persistent people will find them.  Food for thought.

Ok ,, I wanted to kindly lurk around but you guys insisted on my participation. Well you may have created a monster. LOL

I posted in the scam section all the emails back and forth from this girl. Called "See the scam unfold". Armed with the knowledge that its a ruse, I can at least carry this out and waste her time. Ill keep this thread updated as her emails come in. When the request for money comes in Ill post her picture.

I hope this helps someone out there in some way. On the off chance that its not a ruse, Im going to feel like such an ass. But I an intellectually convinced its a scam. Someone please stop me if they think after reading her emails it could be real. LOL

What I did is to inform people about those state exchange programs in Russia. My point was that those programs are real and accessible, moreover, a few years ago I was a participant in one of such U.S. programs myself and know a number of people who did the same.

I think I also wrote that I don't know whether this girl is scammer or not.

Your position did not need defending. I did a poor job of expressing my thought on both sides of the equation. I 100% agree with your position and your thoughts on the matter. Benefit of the doubt is good moral high ground and I applaud it every single time. Unfortunately, this allows a platform for people of less moral fiber to take advantage. The fact was we had no facts that were definitive concerning her intentions.

Please forgive me if I came across like I didnt think your position was 100% .
I didnt mean it that way. I agreed with you and still do over jb. But in this case, it would appear jb's position was more correct. You/I were not wrong in the way we viewed the matter.

Yep, small world!!  I actually live across town from you, near Six Flags (douglas co.) ... My last major contract was in Alpharetta on Holcomb Bridge... boring geek crap.

Glad you didn't get taken.  At least now you know that you CAN meet a real and wonderful FSU lady.. just can't get her special delivery to your door without some pretty serious effort!  ;)

Drop me a PM if you want and we can hook up sometime for a brew and some RussianWomenDiscussion .. and/or Pizza! heh

Well the pattern as quite predictable after a few emails as I wrote on this thread on 28th May:

Code: [Select]
I have had similar emails a few times. The first time I followed it through.
The thing is that they accelerate things suddenly. She will ask you where (which airport) should she come so that you can pick her up etc. Then she will be in Moscow ready to fly to you and tell you that she is $400 short and can you send to money.
Still I am not saying this will inevitably happen but it does sound familiar, but no harm in Carrying it to the end. Afterall if she is comming all the way to US on her expenses and wants to meet you what harm can this cause?

And the endgame on 25th June:

Code: [Select]
So I was only wrong at not being able to predict the exact amount of money asked by $100 :)
Still if some one has the time then going along to that end does no harm, I have never bothered to trace IP addresses etc as things clear up on their own.
There are others who just keep sending emails without any mention of money or comming to you, I wonder what their motivation is?

ecr,

One thing we've all seen the last few years. No matter how bad everything else is they will still have a cell phone! Now, knowing how to operate it is another matter entirely... :)
