According to the  Phantom 's story  I do not think once again that it is all genuine, he should be very careful, those people are very tricky , they learnt how to do it more persuading and  are making people trust them

When we point the finger dear girl, we must remember, there is three fingers point right back at ourselves.  My point here, is that it is not appropriate to comment on the morality of nation or nations peoples when we have never been there to see with our own eyes and therefore really don't know what the actual situation is.

I think a Russian person would be very offended if someone made a similar remark regarding Russia. Food for thought.

sorry for the confusion.  I was just refering to it as a male, or female.  Scammer is all.  Just one person though.  The person never mentioned an exchange programme, just that her visa was approved and she would be here in 1.5-2 weeks.  She'd stay at a hotel, or with me for three months.

I had that figured.  Try to get my cc number, give me a sob story, some horse crap.  But, I've only been playing it out on the side, I have too many real woman from real agencies to respond too.  I've got to check my out box, to see who got a reply.  That scammer is lucky if I send her a letter once a week, that's the kicker every letter, "Oh, I know we are getting closer."  I just thought the found number bit was odd, as I though that they only asked for money in the emails.

Yes the phone thing is not common but possible.
I have spoken to at least two scammers on the phone.

An obvious scammer, but she hasen't asked for money yet.  Asked for my phone number, probably going to ask on the phone.  Says she's coming in 7-days got a B-2 tourist visa and she's coming to my country and wants to meet with me.  I'm just waiting for the money asking.

LoL. yeah. let me see if I can remember how this one goes... okay, she'll contact you when she's in Moscow (arriving from Kazan) and say she's so near to you!!     But then suddenly, everything that can possibly go wrong will go wrong (and this could be any number of twists.. robbed, customs, etc...), so that she hates to ask, but if she doesn't, she'll be trapped in a city without a place to stay and without a way to get home, because she spent all her money to get this far, and Nasty Customs wants her to have $1000 in her pocket to let her leave, such a cruel world she lives in! ... BUT, You, yon Knight in Shining Armor, can save her day if you send her the money to get out of the bind, and of course, she will pay you back, but most importantly... she will immediately get on the plane and come to you!!   

It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out...

Lily,  I know it must be difficult to understand why we say such things sometimes...  You are a real lady, searching for a real partner in life.  Think about how you would interact with a man you know absolutely nothing about.

It's just different how real ladies correspond and how these 'typical' scam letters progress.  Once you've seen them come through your email box a few times, you know exactly where they are headed... to the money whine... sometimes quickly, sometimes more slowly.  They each follow certain patterns... the standard visa/ticket scam, the already have a visa/ticket travel catastrophe scam, the sick grandma needs an operation please send several chicken feet wrapped in crisp hundred dollar bills scam, the english lesson/internet access scam (which can be combined with one or more of the others if the sucker is big enough)... these are typical from the match.com type sites and are the site unseen money scams.  Of course there are more, and then add on the agency scams, etc.. it is just wise for people to be cautious.

Would you tell a man he's your soul mate after 4-5 emails?  Or want to live with him for three months (if you really already had a visa/ticket) after a week of contact out of the blue?  Do you answer maybe one question per letter (if personalized it at all other than Hello Name) and then ramble on for sentence after sentence about love, crappy Russian men, alcoholics, marriage customs, etc?

Perhaps she does have a visa, but it's a K-1 and she plans to dump the guy and hide at Phantom's safe house while she files DV charges! Okay, kidding about the last one, but heck, it could happen...

The common denominator is that these situations are screaming "I'm ABNORMAL- something is AMISS".  Phantom isn't buying into it.. good for him.  But so many other guys gaze longingly at the pictures and talk themselves into believing...

Phantom, keep playing it man.  We all want to hear about the details of this one!  If I was you, I'd act like everything is great and tell her how excited you are to see her.  If for some reason she's legit, you would already know to which city she is coming?

The comment "an obvious scammer" was made after showing her photo.  Thus, I have the same question as Lilly because the photos look consistent with a respectable woman - fully attired, no seductive pose, even a typical "Russian smile" (or lack thereof).

Of course the story is so far fetched. 

Phantom, if you wish to accelerate this, you could send her a note that you have read many stories about RW scammers and that her situation is very similar.  Ask her to scan you a copy of her visa to enter the US.  A real scammer will have one, but it is usually apparent that it is a forgery.

Did you say in one of your emails that you are successful and financially secure?  If so, the green lure is very good for catching scammers.

That's what I'll ask her to do.  But, no she never did ask me my job, that has never came up in the brief emails and I didn't tell her either, and finanances were never mentioned, other than her saying she had saved her money.  She just said she was in medical, etc.

27-yo girls have trouble getting a tourist visa unless they have children they are leaving behind, own an apartment, and have a high paying job [and for sure a telephone].  I am not certain about tourist visa, but once a visa is approved, there is not a long wait.

Tell her that you must talk by telephone.  She can go to a friend's apartment where you will call her at a set time.
