Well, Mother Nature has away of messing up the best of laid plans. Yesterday we were going to have a nice pic-nic on the island of Hydropark in Kiev. Was expecting around 25 people. Sunday morning 5am I am awakened to thunderstorms. No problem, still have 8 hours before our picnic.

7am-8am, more rain. 10am people are beginning to call asking about our picnic. These people have not seen an American style picnic and are somewhat excited as I can tell. I tell them we have to hope the rain goes away. Nope, 12 noon, 1pm, rain, rain, rain. No first official Kiev June picnic. Maybe next year.

So I have all this food, chicken, ham, beef, caviar, cheeses, breads, wine, beer, mixed drinks and of course vodka. What to do? My flat, a hundred meters behind the big dome at Independence Square, is a two room flat with a big balcony but no way could it hold 25 people, so at about 6pm I thought why not call a few friends and let's do something with this food and drinks. I did and the last of these friends left at 2am Monday morning.

I always learn something whenever we do anything like this and this little get together was no exception. We only ran out of one thing, next year will know to get twice, or three times as much. Guess what we ran out of? Not food, we had plenty. Fruits, sweets, again we had more than enough. Plenty of mix drinks, beer, coffee. What we ran out of was,........yep, vodka.
