Is Ekaternburg off the beaten Path?
« on: June 01, 2007, 09:46:11 AM »
Enough to actually realize the heartland and custom of the people and still be close enough for fairly simple travel?

Any thoughts while I plan my August adventure?

Thanks,
macman

Macman,

You are new at this and seem to be headed for a WOVO trip.

Just be real sure about your woman.  Some of these RW/UW can be very argumentative.

I spent a weekend trip with a UW at a remote resort.  I thought she was sweet - wrong!  She criticized everything I said.  Weekend of hell, and I had paid a large amount for this "romantic meeting".  I stayed inebriated at the bar to avoid spending time with her, and even separated our beds (two twins pushed together).

Yekaterinburg is in between. Sort of far enough but still a big city that has had many foreign visitors. If you go on this listen to Gator and don't put all your eggs in one basket. Beautiful city from the pics I've seen.

Thanks Gator. . .

You da man.  We'll have to share our Fla. herritage someday.  I have already made myself RE-available on my chosen web site and also initiated contact w/ a couple of opportunities as well.  I am intersted in the right woman, not a bunch of gals.  It's the logistics that always bug me.  It just happens to be that the RW I connect with live all over the place.  Maybe I should simply pay for their trip to where I am staying and do the Pike shuffle. LOL. . .

Ekaterinburg is a beaut city.  Easy enough to get to and and easy enough to hide in if you need to. You can fly or rail out of there to pretty much anywhere you want.  Not a bad choice at all for a first trip IMO. You could do worse than go no further than there if your time is short.

I was to Yekateriburg twice to visit my lawyer there due to some clients of mine who owned me a quiet great deal of money. During that time I also used the chance of visiting my girlfriend. On the whole, the only impression of the city I got is of one big cesspool. Since it was March, the streets were all covered with 10 centimeters of ice, full of mud and some indescribable stuff. The sidewalks weren't any better. The first reaction when I came to my girlfriend's apartment was grabbing my suitcase and returning home with the first plane.  :(

It was one of the first cities I visited in Russia and I was back again last year.   I have always had favorable impressions of it.  I thought it was a great city and very interesting.

Macman,

Ekaterinburg would definitely be more of the "real" Russia
as compared to Moscow and St. Pete.

And remember that August is a big summer off month like it
is in many European cities.

Don't go that far without back up plans. Get the names
and contact info for all of the local agencies. Ditto Moscow
since that will be your landing and take off point.

Good luck!

I'm sorry Gator, I don't mean to make fun of your most unfortunate experience but it sounds like you had a vacation with the whole RWD crew :P LOL!!!
