In Russia everywhere I see so many short legged babushkas and so many long legged dyevushkas.  Do RW shrink as they turn 50-55?

Many RW as they age have a large equator (otherwise known as the pear shape) with a fairly normal arse.  Perhaps this masks the long legs.

Men seem to prefer these young, bird-legged dyevs (who seem anorexic to me).   Boys with the same shape would be called gangly.  Yes, I did date an ex-model for a long time, but she had breasts, and her thighs were larger than her knees (at age 40).

People tend to shrink with age, that's what I noticed.

As far as Russian babushkas is concerned, they are all kids of the wartime and most likely survived lack of healthy food. They often suffered rachitis and other damaging circumstances.

At the same time, each next generation tends to be taller than their parents. That's why the long legged youngsters.

It is still an enigma for me why the equator gets larger with age...not sure whether it is the bones that goes wide  ;)

This little sentence speaks volumes.  Blues Fairy, I have a feeling that you did not conform to your mother's expectations.   :D

Who ever does?  :D  Indeed you are right.  My legs are considerably longer and I would not stay for 25 years in an abusive marriage like she did.  But my survival skills are definitely from her.
No I wasn't such an enfant terrible as you would think. ;)

Re fat babushkas: most women get plumper after menopause and some hormone-induced conditions cause expanding waistlines.  In some regions such as Siberia, endocrine diseases are very prevalent.  E.g. in the regions of Altay bordering on Kazakhstan (the zone affected by Semipalatinsk polygon) every second woman has thyroid problems.
Add to that bad ecology, poor eating habits, family stress, child bearing, poor involvement of middle-aged women in sports/fitness, etc.

Simple laws of Gravity. Once a body reaches a certain age, it can't fight it anymore, and everything drops!  :P
Thanks Newton! Before him, nobody shrunk and got fat, then he discovered gravity and messed it up for all of us.  :P

The rule doesn't work for those women who make a conscious choice NOT to look/sound/act like their mother.
Lena gets her body type from her Dad and personality from her Mom.  (You also have to consider the Dad has a bit to do with the genetics here too)  Fortunately, my Father in Law is in great physical shape.  He just did his latest parachute jump last month.  He is tall, long legged and naturally slim.  Having a similar personality of my MIL is not all bad either as she has held important government positions and managed people well for quite some time.  She is a well respected woman in her profession.

The passed on traits do not stop at the physical appearance though.  You can also look to the parents as examples of character, personality and morals.  How they interact within their relationship is also key.  Lena was blessed with a great loving dedicated family and now so am I.

VERY interesting discussion about the Russian women looks and gravity.
If to be more serious I did notice that today Russian women look better then 10 years ago.
There are more tools to preserve younger looking appearance such as skin care, cosmetics, surgeries etc.
Women in general all over the world fight to look younger and more attractive because modern society focuses more on a physical appearance then ever!! I am a modern, open minded person and I would probably use any modern technology to look better when I will be older, however I feel sad for young girls who are born in to this new society that is mesmerized buy physical appearance and pays little attention to the moral and spiritual side of a person.  Hey you guys! Would you marry a short-legged woman with little belly sticking out, but who has a wonderful soul, great sense of humor and total passion for you? I would guess that you would probably keep her as a friend. Some of you might say that you would try to find both: good looking and good heart. But admit, it is so difficult to find.
I have a belief that the reason that Russian women are so popular is because they have that rear combination of qualities: they are good looking in general and have good heart. But let me say it is only because Russian women were for many years isolated from the ideology of "superficialism", as Soviet ideology was focused on importance of being a GOOD PERSON rather then a good looking one.
My other observation from my trip was that Russian women turning to be more like American women in terms of being focused on looks. Many of them also bought in to this feminist BULL...T
The tendency that I detected is there and it is only a matter of time before going to Russia in search for that unique combination of looks and soul  will be a waist of time.
So guys, HURRY, :) because something you are looking for could be no longer there in the next 15-20 years.

PS This is not a statement. It is just me philosophizing.

Well, I guess if she had total passion for me, there is every chance I might have been the cause of the little belly sticking out in which case I guess I would have to say, yes I would. ;D However as it stands right now, she hasn't, I'm not, so I wont. 8)

Which explains the high number of stern-chasing photographers here ;D.

Jazzy, rhethorically that is defined as a paronomasia or, in plain language, a pun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pun) ;). Rear as back, behind, posterior, cheeks, bum, etc. etc. Get it 8)?

Moving forward with my trip report I just wanted to post an interesting photo( in my opinion.)
Here I really wanted to photograph Moscow police guys on the horses, but my camera also caught the one Russian family: the mother, father and their daughter. As you can see not all Russian women are in a great shape:))) they can be pretty "juicy". In Russia we say;" Look at your mother in law to know how your wife will look in the future." There is some truth to it :)

LenaC, on the photo, where is the "mother in law"? Is it the left or the right horse ?

Not to jump in on someonelses thread but I just returned from my second trip to Tver in a little more than two months. Very disappointing, if I ever get up the energy I may have to do a trip report of my own. The point of this little blurb is for those guys lookinig for a place to go I'd say keep looking. Lena, don't mean to insult your home town, pretty area, enjoyed runnung down by the river and all that but my observation for the folks looking for more than a nice place for a run is as above.

Ken

You my friend seem to have found a gem, Me when I started this a couple of years ago I was sure there were enough true gems that I'd find one too. The more time I spend at this it's becoming clear all I am able to find are lumps of coal. I know that's about as vague as can be and when I get the energy I'll put up a bunch of details but at the moment I don't have the desire to enguage in the subsequent debate and that isn't the best way to present your views.

Brian,
There has always been diamonds and lumps of coal in Russia.  You may be doing something fundamentally wrong in your search.  Let the experienced guys here know your plight and we may be able to help.  Sometimes it is just all timing too.

There is a member here named Bruce.  He traveled to Tver very early in his search with no luck.  He claimed that Tver had been "fished out" and that there were no good women left.  Bruce made many many trips all over Russia and Ukraine.  He still had no luck in finding what he was looking for in a RW.  Well, Bruce and his wife have been married for a few years now and have a beautiful baby.  Guess where he found his wonderful RW?  Tver of course! ;D

It could be timing, it could be the wrong agency and it could be a number of things.  Talk to us and maybe we can help (when you are up to it)  Best of luck to you.
