Where is the wife bragging section?
« on: June 19, 2007, 04:54:01 PM »
My wife was informed today she has been selected to be the Academic Mathematics Fellow at the college she teaches for,,, kinda a big deal...

All you guys who think you've picked out a cute puppy with no brains need to re-examine your motives, most of our pretty ladies have a lot going on behind those pretty blue eyes.  Just thought you'd like to know.

Congratulations to Etna.  I already knew she was really smart by the mere fact she decided to marry you.

Remember, Big Smile when you give her the keys to her new car.  Some things are priceless.

Adding my congrats to Etna John. Please send her my compliments on her achievements - and to you for providing the requisite support and encouragement. Very little of import is achieved without significant involvement of the 'significant other' - and I am sure you are highly supportive.

jb,
Congrats to you for making such a good choice and congrats to Etna for such a great accomplishment.  You may piss & moan here about the car bet, but I know you will buy it with a smile on your face (as well as a smile on her face too) ;D

Some of these RW are very determined and goal driven.  Since this is the wife bragging section, I'll join in.  Since Lena transfered to the local university, she has been on course for a "Red Diploma" if they offered one.  She just seemed to flip a switch and got very serious about her education once she transfered.  A different end of the spectrum from where Etna is at, for sure, but I had to brag a little too.

Ya know, Ken,,, a determined RW is a hard train to stop.

If that's what she wants,,, let her go at the goal.

I deal with that crap all the time.

jb, congrate to Etna...those academic jobs are very competitive so I know she must be a great teacher and researcher.

Now you'll have to share her with all those information hungry students!  I'm assuming her work load will increase as an Academic Fellow.

Camery you say?  Lucky you. Marina want a bmw convertible!!!

But I think we will compromise on a Mustang  :D

You know, Sandro43, there are really some topics you don't have to be negative about... This may be one of them, my wife's school record is really quite good,,, why do you feel the need to beat her up on this?  You know, if you presist in this vein I will go after you with the same vengence,  after all,,, you are just an Italian

Add my sincere congratulations, jb. From what you;ve written over the
years about Etna, she's quite the remarkable scientist, and a beauty too.

On a whole different level, yet an accomplishment of which I am proud,
Elvira has finally "broken through" a glass ceiling so to speak. Early last
year, she resigned from the banking job when an offer came in: designing
clothes and seamstressing for Coplon's, a very high end ladies fashion
store. Due to her struggle with English, management (in the form of a
female dynamic duo with attitude) has always kept her rather
hidden from view. Actual customer contact's been minimal until lately,
although the DM is in awe of her skills. Last week, one of
the wealthiest women in Charlotte dropped by and demanded Elvira take
center stage: in front of every employee (to include management) as well
as Bruce (the DM) and a few other customers, this woman
praised Elvira glowingly not only for her skills, but for her unwavering
enthusiasm and shining personality even when faced with a difficult
creation under a near impossible deadline. The recognition was
long overdue. She's been smiling constantly lately....

In short, my wife's no rocket scientist, nor a classical pianist. When it
comes to fashion, however, she's excellent - it's her niche, and  very proud
of her are our three daughters and I.

Guys, I know we've all got fantastic ladies, but believe me when I say
in retrospect, we're a truly happy match. So does visiting many get
thrown out the window? Certainly not - it just wasn't necessary in
our case.

Now if Etna would just explain to me integral calculus, I could finally
understand why I felt forced to switch from engineering to geology, LOL!

Etna, find the nicest Camry you can with all the options!

Congratulations to your wife, John.  Isn't this something, we are so few in number but so many of us have married remarkable women.

My wife has not even been here a year, she just completed a 15 credit hour semester at the local college, and made the Deans Honor Roll (3.5 or better gpa).  These weren't slouch classes either.  Am. Lit., Eng Lit, Creative Writing, Public Speaking. She specifically sought out the challenging instructers. The only class I would consider easy would be "Voice for Acting".  She wants to loose her accent.  Damn her.  ;)

I wonder if this was an American Women Discussion Board....Nah, I'll keep it to myself. ;)

Who's being negative ? I was just pulling your leg for having finally made a post containing some sugar rather than your usual acid ;).

Since you're not using any smileys, your sugar period must be already over, now it's back to business as usual. Pity. And yes, I'm Italian, but at least I don't brag constantly about my nationality, though you'll probably "sweetly" object there's nothing to brag about.

JB,

That is wonderful! Congratulations to Etna and to the man who was smart enough to tie her up and bring her home!

In more ways that I can count Elena is way smarter than I am and I get reminded of that when something happens (meaning I do something stupid) and she tells me that she already told me not to do that...

You have every reason to be proud of her and she has every reason to be very proud of herself for all that she has and has yet to accomplish!

Etna & JB,
Big, big congrats to you guys. This is quite a significant career milestone!
Lil and I have always looked up to you two, as you've consistently been a shining example of how to do this *right* all the way around. Now that she has her permanent Teaching certificate, Lil is talking about heading back to school to up her diploma in the hopes of following in Etna's footsteps. She'd really love to teach at the university level - not because of the prestige or salary, but because the students there WANT to be there, unlike many of her HS kids who only show up because they have to (with the possible exception of her Trig and Calculus classes).
Every action in company ought to be done with some sign of respect to those that are present. ~ Geo. Washington

Jet,

Conversely, Etna has always looked up to Lil because she couldn't deal with the middle school kids,,, she tried it for one semester and was near a nervous breakdown... I pulled her out of that classroom before she went into a total meltdown.

Etna is at home in a college setting,,, it is a setting where she thrives.   The real message is that we all have to provide some guidance for our RW wives as they find their way in a new country. I like to think I'm a smart guy, but in many cases I'm a real stumble bum as I try to direct the activities of a star.  Believe me,,, she's the star, I'm just the dumb ol' money maker.

Vaughn,

I have no doubt your wife will excell,,, with your support and encouragement, she has the will and determination to make a go of it,,, and that's what is on the line, fer god's sake, don't lose sight of the goal.

We need to make these gals as independent as possible, we are not going to live forever.

Congratulations to Etna! Times are a little rough here in Michigan as of late. My wife would like to teach......but many teachers have been laid-off. She tested for.....and received....her state teaching certificate (with very high scores....I might add). Although she still hopes to teach.......she has been working at the local Kohl's store. She was promoted to a possition as supervisor....overseeing several departments....two weeks ago. She has always been the go-to person there......I new it was just a matter of time before they saw her real worth.
As far as "teaching".......we may have to relocate......which is an option which we have discussed.....and both approve of. I am proud of her because she gives 100%.....regardless of her options.

Again.....congratulations to "I"............but no surprise ;)

JB and Etna.  Hearty congratulations to both of you as I am sure you have both been very much involved in the effort to achieve this.  It really is fun to watch someone arrive from another country and do so well.  Both your nation and mine have been built on exactly that.
