Scott,
Your situation with your wife is completely understandable and not similar to DKMM's at all.  Your wife didn't lie to you, she just was resistant to discuss a traumatic relationship.  Like I said , very understandable.  Lots of gray area in your story and I too would have cut her (and her family) a lot of slack in this area.  I know you are a rather private man, so thanks for sharing.

KenC,
Respectfully, telling someone their comment is not relevent when it is, is not the least bit respectful.

My example given was not over the net. And the situation is not the least bit particular only to FSU women. I've seen and heard the same sort of situation from numerous people and countries.

Thanks,
Batman,
Sorry that I missed that it was a real relationship and not a virtual one.  My mistake.

Scott: As I understand your explanation of your own situation, it appears to be vastly different from the subject of this thread, if at glance having some similarities. Withholding the details of a previous relationship is IMO a totally 'nother matter.  In this case the extent and formality of the relationship was witheld right from the get go.  Not only to DK but any other potential suitor also.

I spent ten years married with someone who was a master of "half truths" and gentle deceptions.  It really is one of the most relationship corrosive traits you can find in another person.  Can you tolerate it? Yes of course but you do end up leading quite a lonely life.  Kinda defeats the purpose of being married.

Regardless of all the mittigating arguements, it comes down to be a classic case of hook the fish and then........................well there is now an aweful lot of unknowns.  A train wreck in the making? Already made IMO.

Well if they were/are gay, it surely would have something to do with "back". :D  Dunno what they did down here, but imagine it wasn't good.  I was never their most adoring fan.

We need to update the wiki...

What's VAWA?
ZAGS? (like a justice of the peace ceremony?)

DKMM, good luck to you.  Just keep your wits about you.  Don't let a pretty face or the desire to get a family started cloud your judgment. If she's a good girl who made a mistake, she'll be the same good girl after a couple more visits, and you'll feel at ease, and if she isn't.. that will become clear as well.  Let her paint her own picture of herself.. don't grab the brushes from her...

VAWA is the violence against women act.  It was used in reference to someone who would trump up charges to get her green card without being with the man.  I personally don't see how that can apply in my case because this girl is nuts about me but I understand the point.  ;)

ZAGS is where Russians get their civil ceremonies which is what most of them do.

Yes I sure am letting this go slower.  I'm perfectly aware that I rushed the gun and proposed to someone way before we were ready.  It will come out soon if there is something else she has issues with.  My 6th TR in 11 months will be forthcoming (and hopefully full of excitement and controversy as usual).  If things unexpectedly head south then I will be going on a ring recovery trip... and it appears my other girls in moscow have not stopped pursuing me even though I'm engaged so no need to create backup plans.

I/O, I think part of the point that I wanted to get across was that if I had been a member of this forum then and metioned my concern with her evasiveness and conflicting answers, I would have been told to run away as quickly as possible.  Sometimes we are too quick here to put things in absolutes when we really don't have the whole story.

Scott:  Likely you are correct, we don't know and thankfully for you that didn't happen.  Nevertheless, this group here is a tough lottabastards who by and large look out for their mates.  Mostly they are the types I would want in my trench under fire.  Mostly they would err on the side of caution and give me the bald facts as they see it even if it was turning pear shaped.  Perhaps sometimes those of us who have knocked around a bit are a bit too cautious, but I'd rather them that way than the other way.

Even amongst the severest cluebattings, I have yet to see dangerous and risky advice given here although at times it can be a bitter pill to swallow.  There's a lotta gold in the hearts of these here hills when one steps back and looks openly.

Scott,
Of course I can't speak for others, but I know I would have not busted your chops on this like you say here.  Not wanting to talk about an unpleasant past is a whole different ball game than lying about it.  The lie that DKMM's girl told was an "absolute" lie, not a misunderstanding or an unwillingness to share a painful past.

I'm curious, where are the cheerleaders and attaboys from DKMM's last TR who insisted it was OK to get engaged so soon and to use a fake engagement ring?

It speaks volumes when the people who are so willing to give advice about something they've never experienced offer nothing but silence when he hits a bump in the road and asks for opinions.
