Marina now feels closer to old friends who are married now, or in relationships.  Those are the people we are spending the majority of our time with.

It will be interesting the next time Marina speaks with Elena. Seems they are having a very similar experience regarding old friends and feeling out of place.

RE: Most Center pictures. If you had just focused on the girls in the pics and not on the mall we might think you were following in Jack's footsteps!  ;D I did notice that they sure don't look like what I see at the mall here which are mostly 30 plus pounds overweight and covered in tatoo's.

Enjoying the TR very much! Hello to Marina from us.

I prefer the Yeager Schnitzel, veal too wimpy for me, wild boar has some actual taste to it.

We had an interesting afternoon and evening.  We visited a guy Marina had gone to university with who lives about 8 miles downstream just past the river delta.  Got two six packs and snacks and rented a row boat and braved the river, exploring several islands.  I'm sure I will be quite sore in 24 hours from all that rowing!

Got back in at 8 and moved to his condo...he tried to pawn Marina off one of his six week old kittens, but I won that arguement :-). Don't need a cat; don't want to have to get a visa for one or even discuss it with HLS! :-)

The guy's parents came over, bringing a cake and drinks. In the two hours of talk, I understood 10% or so.  Gotta learn more Russian before my next trip!

Got home at 1 and to bed at 2.

It's morning here now-gets light at 4:46 or so.

Best to all from Dnepr!

We are having lunch now at Bartolomeo Dias, a resort just about 5 miles from downtown.  We are eating on a ship, on the banks of the Dnepr river.  Its the best meal I have had on this trip!  Three courses, salad, soup, steak with grilled vegatables and wine.  The price?  Ten dollars!(Business lunch price) Delicious.  Will share pics later.

HAIRCUT

Just got my first Ukrainian haircut.  I felt like I was on the set of a James Bond movie!

I was at a salon at the MOST center.Six beautiful girls were working there.  The girl I had was a tall blond with a sexy figure and short skirt slit up to her waist.  I was hoping she could clip slowly, which she did :-)

And the cost?  Eight bucks :-)

Thanks for the feedback, Ken....I was trying to do a GQ magazine style on this TR, and not Jack's Maxim magazine style!  I'm shooting a place and providing intelligent (i hope) info so future travelers will know the place better.  And if a bombshell just happens to be in the pic, oh well  ;D

But I always listen to my readers, so I'll go out on the street and shoot some pics just for you!!!  :D  LOL

BARTOLOMEO

Named after the explored who discovered the Cape of Good Hope, Bartolomeo Dias, this resort is a mini-museum, with many artifacts connected with Dias and his travels.

Most impressive is the big ship built on the banks of the Dnepr River.  Marina and I had an excellent lunch there for $10 each.  The food, the service, and the atmosphere were excellent.

The resort includes a small zoo (the largest private zoo in Europe), a marina, and a casino.  As well as hotel rooms that go for $300.00 a night.

Here are some pics of Bartolomeo…

TOUR

The service at the resort was first rate.  Marina grabbed a cute hotel employee and asked if she would give us a private tour of the ship.  She agreeed.

She had such a pleasing style about her; great English, and wonderful energy.  So thinking of a friend back home, I asked her if she was single.  She said yes, so I got her email address and phone number.  I'd love to have her as my neighbor  :D  And so would Marina.

MARSHRUTKA

These 18 passenger vans are the lifeline of the city.  They are very convenient and inexpensive…only 30 cents to ride.  But they are HOT!   The windows are made in one piece and cannot open.  Older ones have windows that open, but the locals choose not to open them.  But these vans are also HOT in other ways—the girls that ride them!  And these girls are squeezed against you when 40 people are riding in a van with 18 seats!   ;D LOL

Wow, the marshrutka diva! This woman has a pair of lungs made of leather, she barks out marshrutka routes in a deep, gravelly, and penetrating voice that would make Pavarotti blush. She's deeply tanned and works outdoors all day in frigid Winters and sweltering Summers. Once you hear her you'll never forget her! Thanks Simoni, it's good to know she's still out there :)

Groove, you have described this amazing voice EXACLTY correct!   And you are right--it's 95 out there today and she is barking orders like a marine Sargent!

I'll tell her privet for you  :D

It appears from the angle of the photo taken on the marshrutka that you are comfortably seated while these poor ladies remain standing.  Or did you just lower your camera to get a more "advantageous" shot?

Nope, we were standing too.  I seldom get a seat on a Marshrutka.   Too many people, too few seats...

RENTAL CARS IN UKRAINE

We are planning on renting a car in Ukraine for a few days.

Came across this live "ad" at the MOCT center.

Chevy is alive and well in Ukraine!

Thought you might like this picture  :D

WEDDING BELLS

We've already talked about 7-7-7 being the day of brides.

Thought you might like to see the local paper and its take on the day.

The carry her across the bridge tradition is a bit tough in Dnepr.. the bridge is more than a mile long!!!  ;D LOL

HOTEL OR FLAT?

Dnepr has many fine hotels.  However, I'm glad we found a moderate priced apartment.  It's nice eating one or two meals a day here.

But for those who want to consider a hotel, here's a pic of the European Hotel on Lenin Street at Mechnikova...in the financial district.   About 10 banks are on this short street, Mechnikova.
