I'm sure they didn't phone her the minute the package arrived from the embassy, so if they give your fiancee the tracking # begin harassing them a day after her interview, who knows it might arrive early.

Also, one other tip if you're going through JFK: make sure they give her an Employment Authorization stamp on her I-94, even if she has no intention of working before you adjust her status or she's issued her Green Card. I've read that some clerks at SS offices will refuse to issue SS cards unless she has this stamp. From what I understand it's not officially required in order to obtain an SS card but I've read on VJ that more than a handful of people were denied because of misinformed clerks.

Since my wife will be coming through JFK on a CR-1 visa, isn't it okay for her to go through the line at customs for Citizens and LPR's? It's a heck of a lot shorter. I have heard others have done that with no roblem.

FYI...

I have been through the citizen line at JFK twice this year. To be honest I don't think it takes much longer than the non citizens. The lines looked about the same length to me both times.

Citizens on the right - non citizens on the left.

After everyone goes through they ALL need to get the luggage. Usually there are about 2/3 of both waiting for luggage anywayby the time it arrives.

I have also seen many people that don't know a lick of english go through the shortest line regardless of what it said and the agents did not send them to a new line at all. They just process what is at their counter and move on.

(Side note: Some russian people know very well how to cut a line!)

JFK is pretty good from my experience.

I did fly into Atlanta one time - but for some reason the whole experience is lost in my mind. Might have been the heinekens I had on that particular flight. Dunno Emma.

I also found some distraction for you and your lady , go to metro station Kitay -Gorod there you can have a little 1 hour trip on Moscow River seeing all the sites, Vorobievy gory Kremlin , bridges and the buildings:)

I am sure you will like it the ticket for 1 hour for both people will cost you only 600 rubles, so 300 per each:)

my boy enjoyed it so much as well and we had some pictures done, at least something for you:)

I've only flown thorugh JFK into the USA once in the past year from Kiev. On that particular day, you were better off being in the USC line than the non-USC line, but as Maxxum says, they do a good job there. I was expecting it to be a nightmare and it all went well.

Do not let the line length at JFK fool you. I have gone through this gauntlet a fewl times. Even though the line appears the same length for non-US citizens, after the customs people determine that your finance has a K1 (and/or you also have a child on a K2 visa), they will send her to another room. This is only for the first time any non-US citizen enters the country - after you have processed the Advanced parole and she gets her green card, there will not be a need to go to the second US Customs room.

At this customs room, she will wait in another line (it could take an hour or sometimes it is less) and have another US Customs officer look at her paperwork and maybe take her fingerprints.

I can't remember if I read this up-thread, but - since this POE is JFK - make sure that she gets her work authorization stamp. It will save allot of effort later, it will allow her to get a Social Security Number, which will allow Driver's Permit, which will be a form of identification for bank account, and so on. I am not sure if the JFK POE still provides this.

Ok all,

Elena changed our plans a bit. We have a big swarey in Samara on Saturday with her friends and family. Sort of an official engagement celebration/goodbye party for Elena. This means we need to leave a bit earlier from Moscow to prepare things for the party.

So... We will be in Moscow Aug 20-22. We will leave late on the 22nd so we have time in Moscow the afternoon and evening of the 21st, and during the day on the 22nd.

I don't know where the misconception about lines at JFK customs began, but I've been through JFK dozens of times and the line for US Citizens always moves much faster than the line for visitors. You may not notice it because unlike European airports passengers don't line up outside each individual customs kiosk; they are shunted to single lines (one for US passport holders, the other for visitors) and as a kiosk becomes free the clerk points you to it. If I remember correctly, there are about DOUBLE the number of kiosks for US citizens as there are for visitors, so the line always moves much faster. The kiosk numbers are pretty much par for the course at all airports in the host country.

OMG!! I am going crazy with anticipation over this next visit. I'm already getting antsy and I have four more weeks!

Me and Elena bonded even more on our last visit. It's difficult to be apart - but the waiting is almost over.

If you told me in november of last year that I would have been going to russia four times and bringing back a fiancee, I would have asked for a toke of whatever is in the bong.

It's hard for me to concentrate AT ALL about anything other than this visit. Don't get me wrong... I am functional, but I don't want to be here right now. I want to be getting my darling.

I know what you mean. I just got my tickets for Russia to pick my Marina and daughter. We have grown so close, and can't wait to be together (wish it was yesterday!). I go to work, but think about our future during the day and how much I miss her. I will be glad when I don't have to prepare for these trips anymore, and make sure all is taken care of while I am gone.(house, business etc). I also can't believe I would be doing all this over a year ago. It is not for everyone, but it definitely was for me. All I can do now is try to stay busy until September, then no more long good byes at the airport. I hope our ladies interviews go quickly! Hang in there Dave.-jj

I am flying in on 6th of September, stay a week and then bring them back thru customs in Atlanta. She knows her way around Moscow, and feels comfortable doing interview with just the 2 of them. I can't get away until the 5th of Sept. Main thing is I help her get ready to leave and make sure all goes well thru customs.

Maybe we can hook up sometime after all settles down!
