CRIMINAL BACKGROUND

    Any one out there know anything about the criminal background checks in the Ukraine?

    My Fiance is approved and the last thing we are waiting on is the criminal background check. But we are getting the major league runaround. The government agency has taken over a month and there is no quick resolution on the horizon. Is there some  private agency that can do this? Do we offer a bribe?

  Any help would be appreciated.

If they operate the same as Russia, patience is your only option.
I'm totally against trying a bribe, it may work but it could also land your butt in jail.
Some are faster than others but not unheard of to wait 3 months.

Marco, criminal background checks on individuals in Ukraine, unlike Russia, are illegal by anyone other than Ukraine legal bodies of government or law enforcement.

In your particular case this background check is being done by the US government and you don't even want to think about a bribe. Over the past two years I have seen this background check taking anywhere from three weeks to six weeks on average with 8 weeks being exceptional.

If you are talking about the police certificate that she has to send in, my wife had this done recently and it took about a week.  To my knowledge she didn't pay anyone to speed this up.  If you're talking about the backgound check that the NVC does, they are checking US databases, not Ukrainian ones.  They rely on the police certificate for evidence of criminal activity in Ukraine.  As was said, this usually takes from 3-6 weeks.

As far as cutting weight, try hauling 30kg bags of cement and 50kg bags of sand up eight flights of stairs several times a day and switching to a Ukrainian diet.  I lost 40 lbs in less than 3 months this way.
