Interpreter Scam???
« on: July 21, 2007, 05:05:44 AM »
Hi, I wanted to ask you guys about a Ukraine lady.

Her name is Marina [last name removed], supposedly from Kharkov.

Ive seen her on numerous, numerous marriage, and dating websites, all with similar photos. Some of these sites (agencies) have indicated that she has been contacted over 200 times, and this is on a pay-per-letter system, so her popularity is very high, as would be the revenue she generates for the site.

Ive googled her name, and aside from coming up under such sites, she also appears as a freelance interpreter.

Im sensing red flags, as even the photo on the interpreter website is the same as those from the mariage/dating sites.

Any thoughts?

Very simple.  Avoid her!  :P  Anyone who recieves that much letters anyway has her pick of the crop with all the guys that write and she's probably a gold digger.  Why waste the effort?  Let some wealthy WM or RM spend all their money on her.

Ive had my suspicions.

But, I wonder if this could be a growing trend, as many RW profiles state as occupation, translator, or interpreter.

Could there be some fraudulent activity going on?

I don't know quite know how or why you are thinking a scam???  That is quite a strange conclusion based upon so little info and zero contact, and I don't follow your logic here.  Just what is the scam?

For a very good looking RW on multiple "agency" websites it is not that uncommon to receive 200 letters or more.  Many girls receive more since there are alot of lonely guys who like to write letters to pretty RW's.  Usually referred to as "keyboard Romeos".  Many may not fit her criteria.  But no scam evident from the info you posted.

PS: With many of the less ethical pay-per-letter "agencies" she may only receive a fraction of the letters.  And the agency will carry on a correspondence without her knowledge to boost the revenue stream.  And like Wayne so succinctly put it, "most of the Romeo's never go to meet her".

Im not saying there is a scam regarding agencines, or pro-dater, but...

I know that some of these women recieve hundreds of letters, and if only 5% of the men writing them actually visit the FSU; that doesnt necessarily mean that they will be visiting her, but when I found the website of her being a freelance interpreter.

I wonder if you set up to work with her, for her translation services, only to discover, she does not exist, so you spent a set amount on your visa card for a non-existent service.

The foto on the agency sites, being exactly the same as that on the translator site, I found very, very peculiar, hence my bringing the issues to the table.

Why don't you PM Thor. He is in Kharkov at this minute and knows Kharkov fairly well.

Excellent idea Tim360, I reckon I will. I dont know how much contact he has had with interpreters over there, but it would be good to get the perspective from ground-zero.

Ill let you know of any results

Ick, Having the same photos at various sites, does not show a red-flag to me.....if her name is different between sites...."red-flag"   It is normal for many interpreters to have other jobs, because during the off season...there is not much work for an interpreter ;)

Ick,

Now that you've posted her name you might find that she gets an extra 100 letters in quick succession...   ;)

I don't really see the connection to make her a "potenital scammer".  What you might find is that she's been contacted by hundreds of mena and met very few (maybe none).  Out of the few she's met she hsn't been desperate enought o settle for just anyone.

I'd write to her and stick to the Ten Commandments...  If she is on so many sites find one that isn't pay-per-letter and use that one.

By the way many of the sites are affiliate networks so a girl might list herself with one agency and she'll not realise this will automatically list her on maybe a dozen others.

You COULD ask Thor but please come back and tell us if he repeats previous advice..  (i.e. No decent girls will ever list themselves with agencies and it's best to run ads through his friend because Slava is a good man)

True Kuna, I had forgotten about Thor's position on that.

Hmmm... very pretty but I don't see where it indicates she has been contacted over 200 times.  Plus, if she is an interpreter you don't need letters translated, so you wont be paying there!  Don't worry... I have no intentions of writing her.  I have lots of girls already picked out to write to.  :P
