Been there (here too) and done that!
« on: July 28, 2007, 05:46:09 PM »
Here I am again to see whats up on the forums!!

A short note about me:

I fell into this deal by accident when I made a trip with a buddy of mine, to Belarus in 1999. I fell for a semi-cute Russian gal and to make a long story shorter, the day she got her green card (2.5 years into the marriage) I was locked up and held in the Jail, while she emptied my apartment and took all or stuff. It took awhile to get it sorted out, but I lived and didn't even get a felony rap! ha ha ha  I got lucky I guess!

Anyway.... I moved to Russia in 2004 and stayed there (Sochi) for 16 months or so.... I have been back another 3 months and now have a house there (a wedding gift from my new bride's parents).

I plan to retire there in a few years and start some kind of shop or something. I love the place and now with the 2014 Winter Olympics coming there.....  well, it should prove interesting. I am in the construction business so who knows, maybe I will do something along those lines too.

Anyway... nice to be here and if anyone has questions about Sochi or whatever, drop me an email.

Take care guys!

Jon

Hey Sochi Jon, good to hear from you again.

I would like to put in a first, early request for you to get me a good place during the Olympic's.  I'm thinking a combination Olympic trip/marriage tour will be a once in a lifetime Sochi event.

No problem Jack! Nice to see you're still here too! Are you living in Ukraine still?

Take it easy!

Hi Wayne:

Well, I think it was a little bit the fact that I was not rich... and also that she liked to play with other guys too... I can't for the life of my believe she needed more lovin'.... but... she decided her best friends husband seemed like the better deal! She ended up taking the guy away from her friend and basically ruining their family. The man does not even speak to his own two daughters now, but he is putting my ex's daughter through the U of M and I assume he finished paying for her braces too.  ha ha

Oh well.... everything maybe does happen for a reason. My wife now is the best I could imagine, ans she had her green card the day we got to the US (since we were married in Russia) so she could have ran off anytime. I feel really blessed to have met her!

Been to Sochi,,,Cool place but for olympics,????,,,,They realy need to do a lot of re building! The air port was very small when I went. The Mafia must have paid good money to be selected!! Unsure if we will go.

They have a Brand New International Airport that should be completed really soon. They have been doing huge upgrades to everything. By 2014, it will be an awesome city. I agree that it is not ready at this time, there is no doubt of that, but in 5 years or so... wow.... the plans to change the area are huge!!

Like you mentioned Jon, this could be a VERY good time to own a construction company in Sochi.

I'm sure you know the ropes well enough to know what you need to do.

They love to play the "briBe" game. When I left in January to come home, I was bringing (in my checked bags) a knife with about a 6" blade. It was a gift from one of my wife's cousins. The knife was handmade in a Russian Prison. The prisoners would be given supplies to make all kinds of things for the guards and the guards would then sell the items I guess. Any, the policeman at the airport said I could not take it, as it is illegal... even in the checked bags. He was going to keep a fairly decent knife. Sadly for him, my father-in-law was near the gate watching us and we were able to let him keep it!  ha ha ha  Those guards!

I would love to get in on the construction stuff but I am not sure how. I specialize in Acoustical Ceilings and I know they will have thousands of square feet of them to install. We'll see!!

Since they don't get paid too good I understand the need.  ;),,,They also have great museaums,,,but you cant wear a coat in(coat check system) and some make you wear booties over you shoes,,We got a tourist visa 1st time,,,I didn't need a business  visa,,,does it really matter? 2nd time was dual entry. UK for any future trips. Just as many beautiful women(my wife is OK with looking, same for her if George Cloney walks by) and the same great food and "drink"!!

thompsongunner06,

Sorry but I can not say anything about visa's for those from the UK, but for American's a business visa makes things far easier.

She was born and raised in the Sochi area. She is Armenian. The spelling is Маник.

Yeah, that's why I married her. I like the Armenian women and their values. No offense to the Russian girls of course.

Boring? Jazzy we live on a 57' Catamaran and are about to cross the Atlantic Ocean AGAIN spending the summer traveling the Mediterranean.

Boring. You have no idea what you are talking about.

What?

Jazzy if you are feeling picked upon it is because of your extremist views and inflammatory postings.
