Tiger, your word is gold to me. If you say we have a bet, we have a bet.

My bet is the overall production is going to show the pursuit in a positive light. Yes there could be, should be, some minimal negative footage and narrative but I'm saying the production will be an overall higher positive percentage than negative.  And I would have no problem with if we were to disagree to run a poll and let the members here vote as to if the overall production showed the pursuit in a positive light, or a negative light.
Cool Jack you are on. And if we disagree a poll it is, say the results after a month from the day the poll is posted?

After a month!   Damn, that's a long time to run a poll.

I'd be happy if Dan and Olga were represented as an honest effort. Dan's smart so at least their roles will be kind of hard to misrepresent IMHO.

Was probably nice meeting Jen also..

Jack,

Tiger Paws may need a month if when crossing the Atlantic later this year, a named storm blows him to the Falklands.  TP are you still crossing the Atlantic soon?  57-ft is a big boat, and you are a sailor while I am a seasick pedestrian, but...

It *was* nice meeting Jen. She seems quite nice and sincere about seeking the 'truth' and presenting it.

Judith was also quite nice - and I enjoyed Martin (the videographer). Martin grew up in the former Czechoslavakia (now Czech Republic), and has a great sense of humor.

Olya, to both our surprise, felt pretty comfortable with both Jen and Judith - although she was able to feel closer to Jen much earlier.

I have received feedback from one other couple so far - Clay/Tanya (Clay is a member here, BTW) - and their feedback was overall positive.

Part of my motivation to set this up was that I wanted the media and research community to see a number of couples, and their families, who are leading rather typical lives - not the sensational perspectives that are too-often promulgated in the media. I've made the point that the only REAL differences are a few minor cultural, language, and culinary differences - none of which are really substantial in the overall scheme of a successful or failed marriage.

Note: I am speaking of established marriages when I say that those small differences are largely inconsequential. At earlier stages of a relationship - especially the language differences - are MAJOR considerations.

Gator,
We are planning on leaving next Friday at sunrise if the weather looks good, first stop will be Bermuda. The trip should take us 4 to 5 days depending on the winds, if things go in our favor we could make it is 3-1/2 days but 4 is more like it. We will stay in Hamilton for about a week before heading to the Azores, where we will stop in Angra do Heroismo for a few days before heading on into the Med.

Hi all,

I think that only some of those who came to the get-together in Denver actually participate on this board, but for what it's worth, I just wanted to thank all those who came and were so kind and helpful to me during my quick trip. It always nice to meet people face to face and I had the rare treat of enjoying some of my favorite Russian dishes as well. Perhaps I will make it back sometime. In any case, thanks again for your willingness to share some of your experiences.

Best wishes,
Jen

TP,

Have a safe and event free journey.

My business partner tried to enlist me on such a trip.  His boat is not as fast as your cat and would take even longer.  A few days of alternating 4-hour watches would do me in - only a sailor could enjoy such.

Needless to say, I was never invited to some of his Med sails the following year.

I assume the little woman flies and meets you on the other side of the pond.

Thank you Gator but we travel everywhere as a family, my wife has become a pretty good at handling our boat and will stand watch while I sleep. Our 5 year old daughter handles living aboard very well and even the storms do ot bother her.

TP,

Remarkable woman, and a far better sailor than me Gunga Din.

57 feet and you handle it with just the two of you!   Including anchoring and docking!  You of course have electric wenches, bow thrusters, etc.  Even so, 57 feet!!!

I think few people here grasp the breadth and depth of skills and intelligence required to do what you do.

Gator,

Circumnavigating the globe is not a big deal, I sailed around the world on one of my uncles boats when I was only 19 y.o...  I loved it.

TigerPaws,  VWRW and I also wish you nice weather and good winds and a pleasant journey.

It was interesting to read more about what is involved with your trip.   Sitting around the Caribbean I have thought about that trip of yours a lot, particularly every time I see a pretty good sized Catamaran.   It was interesting to see some of my questions answered here.   Best wishes from the both of us.   Our time in the Caribbean will not last much longer than yours as we soon must concentrate on our journey which is also a big one, through life together to be exact.   Any couple who finds half the happiness you two have will be a lucky couple.

How many crewed that "boat" of your uncle's?

It was one of my Uncle Sam's yachts, there were about 300 of us on the boat.

It was called a Fletcher Class Destroyer, the DD-870.  We had a great time cruising the western Pacific.  We also got to terrorize a few folks who disagreed with American foreign policy,,, great fun.

My wife and I were one of the couples that took part in the TV interview and also with Jennifer.  The tone of both interviews was very positive towards AM/RW marriages with one exception being that the TV crew asked a question about sex tourists.  I answered that while I don't know anyone in person that does it, I have heard of guys that do.

Questions were pretty much the same from the TV crew and Jennifer:
1.  How did you meet?
2.  Why did you seek a wife from FSU (some mild AW bashing in the answer)
3.  What are some challenges about being married to a RW
4.  What advice would you give other guys seeking a RW.

Pretty standard stuff.

Unless they really distort the answers I gave and I imagine the other couples gave, I don't see how they could create a negative show out of it.

I thought I would add another comment.  Steve, who was part of the group that was interviewd and the TV crew is going to follow to Ukraine, was about to give up on the whole RW search because he ran into some scammers.

Tanya and I host a summer get together most every year for AM/RW couples in the Denver area and Steve attended.  After talking to many of the couples, he changed his mind completely and is going to Ukraine next month.

Jack,

If Dan is willing to be the banker I will submit my $50.00 for the show to have an anti-FSU bride bias. Then again who is going to believe enough that they would bet against us?

TigerPaws

I bet $50.00 against you if they don't cut the Dan interview...

A lot of chance that Dan & friends interview is not a show material... too much good news... so, they will cut Dan... i think that it will be difficult to show a bad side on the Dan story... of course, in these world of digital possibilities, who know... but it will be lies... and Dan will certainly not allow it !

In my case, it was a Wielingen class fregat... only 166 crew... 106 meter... the great fun was shooting exocet missile on old US Destroyer in the Caraibe... from my own experience, you have classy people in your navy... same between the low grade one...

Looks like an Iowa class battleship. Possibly the Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri, or Wisconsin. I was on the Missouri for the 50 year anniversary where the Japanese signed the documents for the surrender of WW2.
