Innoculation Requirements for a K-3 visa
« on: August 12, 2007, 12:43:34 AM »
I'd like to ask for input from anybody who might know about the inoculation requirements for one's wife coming on a K-3 visa.  My wife is in Ukraine, and we are filing a K-3 visa.  We are attempting to anticipate the inoculation requirements she must meet prior to or after her medical exam and interview.  She has a record of childhood inoculations in hand.

Could somebody point me in the right direction for information as to what inoculations are required, and also how those requirements can be met (i.e., records of prior shots versus new shots versus shots obtained post-immigration-if any)?

Thank you.

Journeyman,

I believe this list is current.  Depending on where the immigrant is coming from, the list can be longer or sometime shorter.  This list is taken from  http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/refugee/faq/faq_aliens.htm , they seem to set the standards for USCIS medical exams.

Communicable Diseases of Public Health Significance which the medical exam looks for:

These currently include:

   1. Tuberculosis
   2. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Infection
   3. Syphilis
   4. Chancroid
   5. Gonorrhea
   6. Granuloma Inguinale
   7. Lymphogranuloma Venereum
   8. Hansen's Disease (Leprosy)

Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

These currently include:

   1. Mumps
   2. Measles
   3. Rubella
   4. Polio
   5. Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
   6. Pertussis
   7. Haemophilus influenzae Type B
   8. Hepatitis B

Other vaccinations against vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices currently include varicella, pneumococcal pneumonia and influenza. Note that each set of Technical Instructions for medical examination of aliens has an addendum regarding the vaccination requirements for immigrants.

My wife and I thought about the same thing as her interview in Kiev is next Thursday and we wanted to be sure she wasn't deficient in any area.  She didn't have any innoculation records for some reason, even though she is sure that she got the usual ones.  She showed the list of those needed that was sent to her by the embassy to the doctor at her clinic.  He also was sure that she would have had the basics, and for a fee of 50 hrvn he gave her a signed stamped document saying that she was current on everything.

If you want I can send you the instruction form from the embassy that lists all of the vaccinations that they require and you can forward it to your wife.

I don't know if this is still done, but one use to be able to get whatever vaccinations they are lacking during the medical exam for an extra fee.

Yes, wxman, this is still done.  The doctor will review your history and decide what vaccinations are required, and You can have them done there at the clinic for an additional fee, though I have never seen a price list for this.
