Russian Life Magazine ??
« on: August 30, 2007, 03:01:39 PM »
Was browsing around Amazon today and noticed this magazine called "Russian Life." (http://astore.amazon.com/russianwome08-20/detail/B00008CQIB/105-9728967-6084432)

I also noticed this testimonial:

Russian Life provides a fascinating mix of articles in each issue on things reasonably related to Russia. Some stories cover current events, others delve into recent and ancient history.

All articles are very well illustrated and are written at a level that can appeal to both the casual and the dedicated Russophile. I enjoy the magazine on one level, and my Russian born wife enjoys it on a very different level, with the main point in common being that we both read it from cover to cover.

I love the short little factoids that they also include each issue, and even find the advertisements interesting!

Lastly, they have an annual Russian calendar that I've been buying in copious quantities each year - excellent for personal use and for gifts! A great magazine from a great company, and about a once-great and potentially great-again country.

Looks like an AM/RW couple.

Anyone else read it? Is it worth the cost of subscription?

- Dan

Yes and Yes! I've been a subscriber for 3 or 4 years now. Very much enjoy the magazine!

Excellent magazine! You can also realize a "free" subscription annually
by maintaining enrollment in the Russian Arts Foundation @ 60 beans/year....

IMHO, a very worthwhile organization.

Dan- I get this magazine too.   Ordered when I ordered several just to try it.  It has some good background on different Russian people, places, events .  Also seems balanced and not too biased.

Dan,

A very excellent magazine. Fine source on culture/history/arts of Russia. It has been published in the US for about fifty years or so......the editor and most of the staff are Russian. I picked-up my first copy at the local library in 1999......and have been a subscriber since 2000. I have saved all of the copies. They seem to have an article on the history of a particular city in every issue......which attracted me first. The quality of the paper used in the magazine (cover & pages) is a cut-above most other magazines also. I am glad they have kept it bi-monthly (as opposed to monthly) which helps maintain their high standard.
