I think they mean it, or yours has a wicked sense of humor :)

A few months ago in Abu Dhabi went to a lecture by a world authority on camel milk. As it is camel's milk is high in energy and low in fat. It is also low in casein a protein that causes allergic reactions like asthma/eczema.
Thus it is better then cow or goat milk.
So you can consider getting her a camel for the milk and given its size the camel is much more capable of protecting itself from gators c/w a goat. :)

Since the baby (Katya - who is turning 4 soon and no longer much of a 'baby'), the motivation to get a puppy has diminished
Phil, Dan has hinted at an alternative solution: get her pregnant as soon as possible ;). Babies do drool, but do not shed much hair, at least for a good numer of years ;D.

Aikorob,

You have my sympathy.  Shadow will now come after you for that comment.  However, after insulting Crazybear, the police will not be on his side.

If Shadow disappears from this board I have nothing to do with it-honest ;D (I was never here and you never saw me)  ???

For some reason Lena loves rench Bulldogs too.  Also English Bulldogs and Boxers.

Gator,
You may want to explore Boxers as a breed.  They look like Great Danes only more reasonable in size.

Another large breed dog that makes an excellent family dog is the English Mastiff.  But also requires the use of a front end loader.

Sandro,

She has two children and does not want any more.   Besides that....

Shadow and JB,

If we get a Mastiff, might as well get the Great Dane.  In Shadow's photo, below the Mastiff, is a Jack Russel.  These are incredible dogs.   I am certain that Mastiff cowers to that JRT.  My friends had JRTs, and the stories....  The only problem with a JRT is that they train you; you do not train a JRT (sounds like a RW).

This was my best friend for 16 years. His name was Lazer & a better dog & friend you couldn' ask for. I never locked my doors either, LOL.
During the last year before he died I aquired the little guy in the second photo, Sprocket, who I left with my Mother when I moved to Russia. He died this past Spring at the ripe old age of 14. He was a good & faithful dog as well & loved to ride between my legs when I rode my bike.
He'd curl up on the fuel tank between my legs & we'd ride for miles like that. Well trained too, he could do lots of tricks & loved to entertain people on the road or at home.
After my Ex & I split he trucked with me for about 7 years. Lazer did as well for many years, but as he got older it was harder for him to get in & out of the truck & he was too damn heavy to lift all the time, but we managed.
Sprocket used to love to spread out on the dash & we got some strange looks from other truckers passing us on the road. I still miss them both, they were good companions.

Serebro,

Your Masik is certainly a cute one.  You could sell that photo to stuffed animal designers.

Unfortunately, kittens grow up and become cats.   I have seen some entertaining cats, but not many.  It is okay if people declaw them and keep them indoors, but many people here let them run free outside where they kill beautiful songbirds, crap in my sons' sandbox (years ago), torture baby rabbits before biting their heads off,  and carve up my dog's face.

That's wildlife!
But dogs kill and eat me!

That's why I can't afford jogging in Russia-there will be a dog who will bark at me and will bite me!

I am afraid of them. One year ago I was going pass some small children playyard when I heard some girl's screaming. That sounded like someone was trying to kill her or was cutting her leg with a saw. That 7-8 yo girl went to walk her little puppy and a huge dog caught it and was holding it in her mouth. The dog's owner, a girl of 20 was beating the dog on its head and kicking it and shouting at it but it was pointless.A couple of women went out of their houses and they were afriad of coming closer as the dog  looked very aggressive. The girl was standing on her knees trying to take the puppy's head out of the big dog'd mouth, and the puppy's body didn't look like that poor thing was alive, then one woman took the girl away and said her that the dog could bite her, too. The girl was screaming and crying.
I had to go away but I still remember that day.I am not sure about songbirds but it looked like that girl had a nervous breakdown and had to spend a couple of weeks in a special type of a hospital after that.I don't know about her puppy.I still hope that it fainted while the big dog was playing with it.(if it was playing)

Those of us with vegetable gardens prefer the fine work of the neighborhood cats in keeping the rabbit population down.  :)  The worst critter for killing birds has got to be the squirrel. Many a time I have seen them in my trees, and when they find a bird nest, the little birds do not have a chance. Gets pretty ugly. Headless birds do not seem to fly.  :o

Two Mastiffs kill woman.

Gator, pot belly pigs are a popular pet among a few people. They are intelligent. Only humans, primates, dolphins/whales are smarter. Pigs also taste better than dogs.

I've seen a few hawks fly into trees and carry out squirrels to eat. Paybacks a bitch. Owls have done their fair share of damage to rodents too.

My fiancee has a vegetable eating mini poodle and wants a dog when she gets here, probably a toy poodle. I'm not into big dogs. Bad memories when I was a kid. I stepped and rolled into too many piles of huge dog doo doo. It's really nasty when it squishes through your toes.

Gator,

Go with the Great Dane...  You know you want to...  Imagine the joy for your wife!

Seriously... Both my father and one brother had a Great Danes many years ago and they were wonderful dogs.  Not at all aggressive... very curious... if anything quite timid.  They need some space and exercise but don't we all?  Oh, the food... they eat quite a lot too.  My father would regularly stew up a leg of lamb and veggies for his...

If her heart is set on a Great Dane I doubt she'll be as happy with anything else.

Imagine if she said you you that you can play any sport you want but you couldn't play golf because it takes too long.  Yeah... you might be happy enough with lawn bowls but nothing would ever replace your true love.

By the way... funny thread.. loved it...

Good luck... WOOF!

I couldn't ignore this topic as soon as saw it!
I can perfectly understand your girl, Gator.
Since I was 11 we had dogs at our apartment. My mom just loves them and me too. Though, daddy wasn't very happy :)
We had a poodle (middle size), then 2 rotweilers (at the same time), there was puppies twice (9 and 6 of them).... then we had mastino neapolitan, 2 sharpies... why did I give so detailed description? these all was in  a 2 bed room soviet style apartment! No wonder, I definitely want to have a dog in  the US!
Henry doesn't mind but we can not make up our mind yet cos we have different tastes :)

my advice, get her what she wants! You can try to warn her about all "good and bad" of the breed and if she is still insist on that, then  just make her happy!  Best of luck!

He's a man and occassionally he needs female companionship which us guys at the forum can't give. I suspect he's in the FSU right now. ;)

I think he's just being selfish. He could easily go to the RWD Storefront and buy a blow up sheep so there is absolutely nothing that he would need that he can't get here or as delivery so he could spend all of his time here. Selfish, selfish man!  ;D

Billy, it is comprehensible. Simply, taking into consideration that Gator said he sleeps only 5-6 hours per a day and his RW usually sleep 11 hour, I find it strange that he even does not visit RWD.  :(

Ken

Yes, I am in the Ukraine now. Ken, you know, we were very close to the interview.... in august we have completed the Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration and sent it out with all  the necessary documents. We expected the interview in October but I recently got the application back (an incomplete part of it) with the request to answer 2 questions which we, obviously, have missed! I blame myself because I did not check things out after we filled the form. What a shame, now it probably going to take another month or so! Henry already let his family know I am comming in November  :( :(    well, now I have another month to improve my english in order to impress them   ;D

How is Helen doing, bthw? does she have some free time with her new job? if so, I'll sent to her PM.

Good luck Dar and sorry to hear about the missed section of the form. Yes, Elena checks in here fairly often to read and see what's going on so do send a message.
