An AMAZING week
« on: September 11, 2007, 07:48:34 AM »
I've had an incredible week (or two) and was writing a long post to update everyone but business and meeting Russian government officials (senior ones... interesting ones...  and one VERY interesting one) seemed so limp compared to yesterday.

So...  My Girl went for her interview in Moscow just a little over 2 weeks ago... actually 2 weeks and 2 days ago (as of yesterday).

They confirmed the normal visa processing time was an average of 5 months but it could take 10 months (85% of Visas are completed (approved or not) within 10 months)...

Well... yesterday My Girl got a phone call from the Embassy and they said they have approved her visa on one condition... ONLY if she can be in Australia within 3 weeks.

OF COURSE WE SAID YES!

I have no idea why...  I have no idea how... I have no idea about almost anything that has happened in the last few weeks but right now My Girl is madly making her final arrangements at home and I am arranging fights and she will arrive in Oz in the first week of October.

We feel so excited... incredibly blessed... indescribably scared... but so consumed with hope... that I'm sure it'll take a few days to sink in.

Two weeks and two days to be approved!  AMAZING!

Some things you can plan... some things you can imagine... some things you can understand... but some things just come out of the blue and hit you for six!

We will be married on a beach close to my city on November 17 and after that will probably return to UKR to give her enough time to settle everything that needs to be settled...  She'll spend a week with her family in Moscow before coming here but a little more good luck with our wonderful Moscow Embassy and they will all have holiday visas so they can attend our wedding too.

I'm still grinning from ear to ear and am not sure how long it will last!  I hope it lasts forever!

God Bless the Australian Government!

Kuna (and His Girl)

:couple: :heartafire: :flowers: :luv:

Oh... I want to say one thing...

I've said it before but I want to reiterate my deep and sincere thanks to the OMB's (and our RW members) for their advice, knowledge and encouragement over the past year.

I KNOW this journey is one filled with dangers but I believe this community has given me every opportunity to find truth and reality, and without you I might still be thinking about what to do rather than just doing it!

I've found a truly spectacular girl and very soon we'll start our new lives together.

Thank you...  No, that's not enough... THANK YOU!   :D

Kuna,

I couldn't happier for you.

I hope you'll take a clue from I/O and post a similar thread regarding your girls first impressions and antics.  It should be enlightening for the wannabes.

Congrats again and good luck.

Congrats Kuna, Reading your path to where you are now, I'm sure you executed the good advice you got here giving yourself the best chance for success in this endeavor. While other men are still trying to figure out who's sincere and insincere based on a few letters and a photo, you found an easier path by communicating with the women extensively and doing your homework before visiting. Both you and your fiancee feel as if you each found a winner I'm sure.

Congrats Kuna!  All your hard work and preparation is paying off in wonderful ways.  Not a lot of time to prepare but no matter what you do she will change it all when she arrives anyway.  I think my driving stories will pale in comparison to you trying to teach her to drive on the wrong side of the road and how to avoid the stray wombat.

I'll really be disappointed in you if you drop out of sight and don't provide some regular updates on things.  The newbies need to see the success stories.

Splendid!  Just accept the good news.  Do not search for a reason.

If you need a reason, I would venture that your lady really impressed the embassy staff.  They knew that she would be a wonderful addition to your country.

I like how your country does the interview first.  And she can return to her country soon after marrying.

Well it sounds as if you will have a rip snorter on 17 November.

Congratulations.

Thanks All...

Gator...  I think you're right...  she certainly knocked me off my feet when we met!

I should say that our Embassy has been very good to deal with though.  Everything has been very smooth to date and they've gone as far as being overly helpful at times.

I suspect we were lucky... but still...  after she arrives here we'll be sure to send thank you letter (along with the familys visa appications for the wedding)   ;D

Well done Kuna, as a fellow Aussie I think your girls' granting of this visa must be a near record.
My wife got hers 2.5 months after interview and she has been here a year now.

As Shadow mentioned, and am sure you know, the hard work starts. As you, and I/O soon have to prepare for the next stage, there are many things that you MUST do as soon as your girl arrives to make the secondary stage easier.

Tomorrow I will make a thread in visa section outlining these things.....many things you guys probably haven't thought of. For now, time for my wife  8)

Kuna, way to go! In the future I'd like to hear more about that
"if she can be in Oz in 3 weeks...." approval. That's novel.

Thanks Ken and Vaughn... and anyone I missed...   :)

Flights are all finalised and now we're counting down the next 19 days... I still don't think either of us can believe how quickly it's all happened but we're both very happy.

We know the coming months will present some challenges but I'll remember the advice of the OMB's... Positon Postion Postition... errrr....  sorry... got that wrong... I think it was Patience Patience Patience...

aj,

Indeed it was... I'd like to say I planned it like that but I have no idea how it was approved so quickly.  It sure beats the hell out of the 5 - 10 month estimate they give out.  Another member here told me they were approved in 2 and a half months but 2 weeks 2 days is just mindblowing... especially as they said a number of times the medical approval takes 4 - 6 weeks so that's the "absolute" minimum...  but we're not complaining.

15 days until she arrives... many things to do but I'm sure I'll get there...

Oh,  one bonus is that we have "Grand Final Weekend" here the weekend before she arrives which is probably a good thing... that's probably a little too much "Aussie Culture" to introduce her to too soon.   ;)

Thank you Dar... I hope she'll be happy too....

Update....

My Girl had her last day at work yesterday and of course it was a very emotional day for her.  She loves her work and was proud to work for the company she was working for.  As she was finishing up her job she remained committed to doing as good a handover as possible not only to do the right thing by the company - but also because made her feel good to leave everything "in order"..

Her friends at work have asked for photos and that she stays in touch so of course she's now thinking of ways to do that.  She's thinking of a blog of sorts to share with friends and family.

On Saturday night her friends came to her apartment for a "Girls Party" and I can only imagine what the conversations were like...   :o  Her friends came over for dinner a few times during my last trip and to see the rapid fire conversations... laughing and banter was really something to behold!

Over the past few days I've thought a lot about what she is leaving behind and I silently repeat my respect and admiration for her over and over again in my mind.  Of course I'm not keeping it inside because I think it's important she knows how much I respect and admire her because I can only imagine the rush I'd be in if the situations were reversed.

I asked her if she had a cry in the office when they gave her her gift and said their farewells but she said, "No, but my friends will come to the train station and I think I will cry then".

It's really lovely she has people there that care about her so - but sad that she is leaving them behind.

My family (especially my mother) are jumping out of their skins waiting to meet her.  I've tried to explain she'll need a little time to settle in and adjust but I've promised as soon as she feels up to it we will come and visit.

Of course in typical style My Girl says "I will be fine, we will visit after one days sleep" but I think we'll just wait and see.  The trip to Oz is quite a bit further than most other places in the world - and certainly a lot further than she has ever traveled before.

(hmmmm... did I mention this???)  By coincidence her first weekend here coincides with a family reunion for the Ukrainian side of my family.  She's quite nervous about this but I've explained she will be in exactly the same position as me as I won't remember most of them and haven't met most of my cousin's children.  They are expecting about 200 people on the Saturday so I think if anything we might stop by for a quick visit (to see the older Aunties and Uncles) and give our apologies when either of us starts feeling our head spinning.  :)

I think I have pretty much everything covered at home.  The carpets will be cleaned on Friday and I've ordered flowers for Monday so I can take them to the airport for her arrival.  Yes... I intended to take flowers but she added during a conversation on the phone "Will you be waiting for me with flowers"?...  So I guess thee will be no surprises with My Girl!   :o

Shhhhh.... just quietly - I have arranged a friend to come along with my camera to get a few pics of both of us as she comes out of the arrival gates because I'm hoping they will be pictures we will cherish for the rest of our lives. If her reaction is anything like my return to Ukraine in May it'll be an auxiliating series of pics. (In May I really wasn't sure what to expect as we were still trying to contain our feelings after the first trip but as soon as she saw me she ran through the arrival doors and threw herself into my arms.  Hmmm...  many kisses and hugs and jumbled expressions of joy)

 :couple:

So... have I forgotten anything??? I'm sure I have but I'm confident that any hurdles we meet will be overcome by my desire to do the right thing and her commitment to not let anything slow us down.  She has a very clear plan for what our lives will be like after her arrival and everything has been prioritised as "Task #1".  I can't help but think she (and we) will need more time to let a few things evolve...

By the way... the Aust Immigration web site has had some excellent information that I found.  There's a book (in Russian even) on "What to do when you immigrate" which gives a little check list of all of the important things to get done once an immigrant arrives in Oz.  A lot of it is obvious but it's comforting to know I'd thought of all the important stuff.  Those from Australia taking this path would do well to spend time on the immi website over and above the research they'll do for the visa applications. I have a bit of a theory about government employees in that most of them are people who want to feel fulfilled in their jobs so treating them in a certain way usually gets you a lot further.  (Well - that's the theory anyway and most of the time it works downunder)   ::)  I really have nothing to complain about from our Dept of Immigration staff or the staff in the Embassy in Moscow.  How could I complain huh???  We're still in shock I think!

Oh....  The family (our family) has already put in a request for the "eldest nephew" to come to Oz for Xmas...  We both think it'd be great so she'll make arrangements when she is in Moscow at the end of this week.

Tomorrow she leaves her home town and even I feel quite sad that we won't be visiting there often in the future (Her family are now in Moscow).  I only had the two trips there (one very short) but it's a city I remember with much happiness and pleasure.  It's the place of her birth and childhood years, and even though it's very different to where I grew up I can't help but think her life's journey has prepared her well for the future.

I hope all those that are still seeking new love as are lucky as we have been but then again I know luck only had a small part in the equation.  My Girl is really a remarkable person...  and I think we can all debate how we should be looking or who we should be looking for but ultimately our goal should be to find a remarkable person... FOR US!

If anyone asked what the most important factor in our "success" was TO DATE (because long term success is certainly not yet guaranteed) I would have to say the similarities in our character.  She's very pragmatic... she's not one that let herself be seduced by grand fantasies of "what could be"...  and she's very realistic about the challenges ahead.  We want the same things in our future and a few crisis' since meeting have shown each other what we'd both like under considerable stress.

I've also mentioned this before but I think her experiences living and working in Germany have been a Godsend because she has already experienced the massive culture shock most women only experience after immigration.

I doubt I will be posting much in the first days or weeks after her arrival because I have a feeling we will be very busy.  Of course I hope to still have time to have a peek in RWD and contribute where possible but that's likely to happen more after things settle down a little.

So...  6 days to go and everything is on track.  Tomorrow she leaves for Moscow, and on Sunday she boards the plane - that will connect with another plane - that will connect with another plane - that will bring her into my arms.   ;D

Oh... final thought...

I've found a new Russian grocery store that has opened about 10 minutes from our home and a Russian language book and DVD shop a few minutes more away.  I mentioned this to her and the first thing she said was "Good, I hope we can buy fish there".

I think the dried salted fish will have to be found somehow in the very near future!   :-X
