Here is my 1st non-intro post.

After doing search on Chelyabinsk in this forum I come up with 2 hits but after reading through them they don't have the info I am looking for.

After being invited to Chelyabinsk next June I am doing some preliminary research on the city, Google is a wonderful thing. I have found Uni's, schools etc. but not any real contacts with people who are able to help a foreigner (like me) in the area. I guess what I am looking for is a central contact (not the lady or her family I am planning to visit) for help with all the little things and possible backup/assistance if worst comes to worst and I need real help. Is there an agency or a knowledgable/helpful individual who is in Chelyabinsk that people here have used and can recommend.

Chel is a nice place, I can put u in touch with a few folks, not guides but excellent English speakers. I'm sure they will refuse any form of payment.

Chel is odd, I've spent a lot of time there and had no hassle, no militsa problems, and the
traffic is ok, drivers actually give way to people crossing...

Also I can put u in touch with Chel's resident American, whose only Russian is 'pivo, pazhalusta' after six years now. He's a Noo Yorker, and he's a miserable bastard. He;s earning a fortune teaching Russian's American business methods judging by the size of his flat. Yeah I know!! 'Have a Nice Day, Comrade...' FFS...
