Scams work both ways
« on: September 18, 2007, 08:38:03 AM »
Yesterday my wife and I met a Russian woman who lives in our city.  I knew it was her immediately when she drove up in a new red sports car wearing a practicaly nonexistent miniskirt and her 59 year old husband stepped out of the other side (she is 33, but that's a whole different topic).  I found how they had met very interesting.  He was introduced to Russian agency sites by s friend, bought her contact information and wrote to her.  She replied that she was already engaged to an American man, so he offered to continue writing as only friends if she was interested.  Later she wrote to him in tears, saying, 'My Todd has died!"  She asked him to call and find out the date of his funeral so she could send flowers.  Todd had told her that he worked in Washington DC for the government.  This man called and found that there was no such man on the government employee rolls and that the department he claimed he worked for did not exist.  He then checked phone directories to find any contact info and could find nothing.  I don't know the extent or the nature of their relationship prior to his "death'  but one can only imagine.  I know of another woman who began the visa process only to have her fiance return to his ex-wife (so he said) and another who went to Cyprus to meet a man only to learn at the end of their vacation that he was married.  At any rate, it's good to keep in mind that some FSUW will be cautious when they hear stories such as this, the same as we are cautious when we hear our own scam stories.

Maybe, but it is hard to scam your own government when you have to sign a sponsorship contract in Canada. They will eventually track you down lol... I presume the woman in this case met the man while she was already a US citizen?

No, this was while she was still living in Russia.  She has been in the US for about a year now with her new husband.

Scott,

It's worthwhile to comment on this because the girls are definitely cautious about meeting men for the first time because of all of the bad stories they've heard... AND THEY DO HEAR THEM!

If men reaised this they might also realise why it's so ridiculus when Fat Yuri tells them he (she) loves them and feels such a connection.

The common fear is that they will become "sex slaves" overseas. My wife was asked by her co-workers and family as to whether she feared becoming a sex slave in Canada.

As many of you know.....I have been involved with this International Marraige subject for more years than I want to say .... and during this time I have visited, read and posted on a number of forums.

The first day, I ever read Russia Today boards.... There was a young Russian born child , who posted he was so unhappy and he felt that if he could not return to "Mother Russia" he would surly die...... I never knew what happened to him.

I knew, that sooner or later I would have a Russian born family....and I made my mind up that our child and lady would never want for love and support.

I have that family, and you will see and read of them many times here.

But this is not always true, for  many of the ladies, who arrive here to big promises, that were lies and are not treated well, and return to their families bankrupt, with no home, job or self esteem. For her it is a leap of faith....She gambles all on HIS word and promises.

I have had several of more than a few, over the years write to me about what they found when they came here.....And the children are the ones hurt worst.
Some make the best of it, others return home, to start their lives over as best they can.

But remember, that these same men would treat an American women the same. The only difference is that she is on home turf.....a lady from another country is not.
It is possible to be on the best behavior for a week or perhaps two.....And to hid addictions, that do not make for a strong and good family life. It is important to meet your lady's friends and family to spend time (hopefully several visits) with them seeing how they act and relate to one another.

It is always best to remember, that we usually only hear one side of the story...
And the he said ...she said ....may not be the whole picture!

I continue to say...I hope you have a great adventure.....judge with your heart... and trust your instincts. If it doesn't feel right..... WALK AWAY.

AND bring home a lady as great as the one my son did...

Mamma D

May those that love us, love us.
And those that don't love us,May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,May He turn their ankles,
So we will know them by their limping.

God put your arm about my shoulder... and your hand over my MOUTH!
