A short introductory note.

Married five-or-so years to a Russian girl who I met in Crimea whilst travelling 18 months previously.  Step-daughter coming up 21.  Fits in neatly between my two sons of 22 & 20, so to speak.

Living happily in the UK.

Paul

pk,

So much information in so few words - I'm hoping you'll stick around to contribute
your share of experience. Mixing children of teenage persuasion was one of our mighty challenges.
Welcome aboard!

I guess you are in Crimea, Scott!?!

One of the most fascinating things for me has been the history lesson along the way.  It's been fascinating learning about my wife's family, what they went through last century and th ehistory of Crimea.  What part do you live in, if you don't mind me asking.

Yannis - I live in South Gloucestershire.

South Gloucestershire...... not far from where I live....maybe 1 h 30 min via M25 _ I live in Leatherhead Gate 9 .... 20 min from Gatwick and 30 Min Heathrow.

Whenever you are around Gatwick PM me and we can meet, if you like, and have a drink.

I expect you are using UKI to Kiev from Gatwick and onwards, same day to Simferopol..... or you use other ailrines from Heathrow or Manchester?

No,  I was always welcomed and well-loved by her parents.  And even though they'd never met my parents they exchanged birthday/christmas/NY/Easter cards, sent best wishes etc.  Alla's mum's English is limited - help from a dictionary - as is my father's Russian - helped by Alla - but after the initial shock that their offspring had found a partner several thousand miles away, having met the new intended both sets of parents loved the new addition(s).

As for your question, sadly Alla's parents are/were quite ill, her mother especially.  She is bed-bound and relied very much on her husband but unfortunately he died in January.  As far as Alla is concerned, my presence would simply mean one more thing to worry about. Alla is an only child and therefore solely responsible for arranging her mother's care & well-being.  I can understand.

I'm afraid anything that uses the M25, I tend to avoid  :(

Will be going there tomorrow.  Flying (sic) visit though  :D

We've used a variety of routes.  The favourite - cheapest  :) - was Aerosvit out of Birmingham, change in Kiev, but that has stopped.  This & the last time it's UKI out of Gatwick and back to Heathrow.  Wasn't possible to get an onward flight last time, though.

Sorry but I can not understand why you can't get a connecting flight to Simferopol.....as far as I know UKI has a flight departing Borispol at 18.45 ans is the same aircraft that just arrived from Gatwick. On the return of course you have a night stop over in Kiev.......

Any how if UKI would not sell you this connectinng flight you still have VV123 departing at 20.35......and the return is still an overnight stay .

Next time I suggest use UKrainian Travel......and I am sure Paul can fix it for you.... No is not my travel business... I am retired but I know them well.

PS: UKI do not show their connecting flights on the Internet, so you can not book them. You have to phone direct to their offices in Crawley.

Quite simply, the flights were full.  They took the train, much to the delight of my step-daughter.

To be honest, they do not like stopping over the night in Kiev, so if its a case of that or the train, the train always wins.  However, the return flight to Heathrow is a much more civilised time with no need for any overnight stay.

By the way, we've always Ukraine travel for travel to Ukraine.
