« on: September 27, 2007, 03:51:14 PM »
I would like to get a visa for my girlfriend , she lives in the Ukraine, and is in her final year of school.  I know there are many types of visa.  Travel, work, fiancee, and others.  What type is the best for me to try to get, any info would be greatly appreciated.    Fred

The best visa for you to get is a airline ticket for YOU to Ukraine. Anything else at this time is "Pie in the sky".

Too right dood, USA being somewhat paranoid about guys inviting people over who they've never met. As is any normal Country, inc the UK.

Fred, u have a penpal, not a girlfriend, unless u have met her, in which case I take it back.

So, let's have the story, how old r u, how old is she (young?) why the interest in a Ukr/FSU girl, is it the culture, the expressive language, Opera, Ballet?

To cut to the chase, if she's at school, no job, no ties to Ukr, no job, no chance of any visa whatsoever.

Udachi vam.

Fred, your gf would have near zero chance in getting a tourist or work visa. She has a near guaranteed chance in getting a fiancee visa (k-1) but you should only obtain that if you're sure you want to marry her.

How many  times have you been to Ukraine? Without proof of meeting, you will not be able to get a fiancee visa either.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Lets take a wild guess here and assume the screen name indicates 43 or 44 years of age and the "Cyber Hottie" is still in high school. :hairraising:

I really think before you worry about visa's you should do a lot of reading here.

I think to all of us from what little we know so far it sounds pretty fishy.  We don't know enough to say that for sure but I think if you told us a little more we could give you some better suggestions.

One way or the other tourist visas are probably impossible.   A student visa is possible.  A fiancee visa is not possible unless you have met.

More likely she is finishing up University which would make her about 22-23 years old.

As the others have said, it is possible to get her a student visa, but she would need to show sufficient liquid assets for a year of tuition and living expenses. As one example, one community college requires proof of $19,000 before they will issue an acceptance letter and invitation and this is probably on the low end.

No chance for a tourist visa and a work visa is possible only if she has some extroardinary education or skills that she can find a US company that is willing to sponsor her.

If she has asked you to pay for her to come to the US, this is a huge red flag as they know this is not possible and will just say so long aftr you send the money they say they need for this.

The only way you can get her to the US is to spend time with her there so that you can document your relationship as a valid one, then apply for a fiance visa.  You can't get her over here as your "girlfriend".  Any face to face time will be in Ukraine until you are sure enough to take the next step.  there's just no way around it. I don't know how long you have known her or if you have even met her, but I highly suggest you read up here and learn the ropes.

Very funny, Ste!  LOL

 :D

Freddie, to get a serious answer you HAVE to provide more information.  Until you do, we'll assume you are in "over your head."  Or kidding us...

You dont have to provide more info!
It seems the top two options are:
Fiancee visa
Getting married in ukraine and getting visa

I dont know which way is the fastest!

I think K1 visa is the best option because you'll have more time in the US to get to know her before getting married!

Here is the process in a nutshell:

First, go to the US Department of Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly the INS) website and download the following forms:
I-129F Petition for Alien Fiancee
G-325A Biographic Information
Complete the paperwork. This means that you will have to fill out 4 copies of the G-325A for YOU and 4 copies for HER. Make sure they are all signed!
Gather together your evidence: passport and or birth certificate to prove your US Citizenship, any documentation of yours (if previously married) proving that your prior marriage(s) have been legally terminated, any documentation from her showing that prior marriages have been terminated, a passport-style photograph of each of you (lightly write the name of the person in pencil on the back of each photo), evidence to show that you have met each other within the last 2 years (best accomplished by photographs of the two of you together in the FSU).
Type up a nice cover letter specifying what you are including, why, and which supporting documentation you are providing. Include the appropriate fee ($165 at the time this was written), and mail these to the appropriate Service Center, as determined by your state of residence—you can find out the addresses by reading the instructions on the form.
Now you play the waiting game. You wait for your receipt. Then you will receive either a notice of action (I-797), which hopefully will tell you your petition has received conditional approval. This does not mean she will get a visa! It simply means that your information will continue to be processed.
The next step is receipt of "packet 3." This will be sent to you and your fiancée in her native language. It basically says that your petition has been approved and she needs to start gathering the documents which will need to be presented at her interview. These include passports, birth certificate, divorce decree (if she has any previous marriages), police report, photographs (3-4 more, passport style), consent document (if she has a child and the father’s name is listed on the birth certificate), and evidence of support—this could be the Affidavit of Support (I-134) or any other kind of documentation proving that you will be able to support your new wife. You will need to get this to your fiancée in time for her to bring to the interview. There will also be a form in this packet for her to complete and send back to the Consulate via email or mail stating that she has all of the documents requested.
The home stretch—Packet 4 is then sent to your fiancée. This will include the date of her interview and instructions on where to have her medical exam completed.
Interview—the final step! If you come with her to this it will prevent her from waiting in a long (sometimes VERY long) line. Usually these interviews are anti-climatic. Sometimes the Consular officer will ask her a few questions, sometimes not. If you have come this far, it is basically just a formality. So, unless she says something very stupid, there is not much to worry about at this stage. Depending on the country she may receive her visa immediately on the spot, be required to come back at the end of the day or the next day, or have it mailed to her (insist on Fed Ex or some other method of insured and traceable delivery, even if you must pay extra for it).
Make your travel arrangements and go home together! Marry within 90 days, or give her a plane ticket home and inform the USCIS of your actions.

That is a basic, quick and dirty overview of the process of obtaining a K1 fiancee visa. If there are any minor children involved, they will receive a K2 visa at the same time as their mother. You will probably have to pay a $100 visa issuance fee for each one, in cash only, US currency only. The actual amount may vary according to the individual consulate.

BEST OF LUCK!!!!'
Michael

Joe, thanks, it is good info however, I would still say to all men out there interested in pursuing a relationship with any FSU woman: Go visit your woman in her own country first,  learn more about her and her culture and make sure you are a good fit for each other.  No one falls in love through emails or photos.  You must meet face to face and see if there is chemistry, and experience the reality of the relationship.  Bringing any girl to the USA for the first time is so OVERWHELMING to her that it will leave her head spinning.  Now back to reality,, spend a lot of time before you get serious.
