Waiting saga over!
« on: October 24, 2007, 05:00:10 AM »
Well fellas, I'm finally done with the K-1 wait!  7 months for us.

Below is a re-post of my today's interview report from another forum.

My guy gave me a wake-up call at 6:05 am, after my two alarms have gone off. I was at the gate at 7:30 (I had planned for traffic jam but there was none). There were just two K-1's today, a young girl from Turkmenistan shaking with fear, and myself totally calm and barely awake.  The documents were picked up by a rather sarcastic Russian guy in the first window. He wondered why I didn't bring my fiance's tax returns but I told him that the pay stubs and letter from employer should be enough.  :P  We set to wait, and I kept joking and telling funny stories to cheer up the poor Turkmen.  Then after some waiting I was called to the second window.  A lady CO took my fingerprints and asked me about how my fiance and I had met, about his job(s) in much detail, about my previous stays in the US, whether we had any previous marriages or kids.  She also asked to see the most recent photos together. Then she said, "Well, I think your K1 is approved, you'll receive visa in a week!" And that's it.
No emails or phone transcripts were necessary.

I walked out, picked up my stuff from the security window and waited a bit for the Turkmen girl to see how she fared. She issued from the embassy shortly with a big grin on her face.

Then, relieved, I went to have a BIG cappuchino in the nearest coffee place.

My guy and I plan to arrange for my trip to NC at the end of November.  I'm selling my car tomorrow; yesterday I spent the entire day in GIBDD taking the license plate off (why must every simplest thing take all day?!)

But the realization that I'm actually LEAVING soon has not come yet.  Still too many things to do, business to wrap up, friends to visit, bottles to drink, songs to sing... I've got some time yet...

That's wonderful news.  I hope the "wrap up" at home goes easily and I sincerely hope you remain active in RWD after your arrival in the US.

Congratulations BF! I hope you make it here in time for Thanksgiving!

The documents were picked up by a rather sarcastic Russian guy in the first window. He wondered why I didn't bring my fiance's tax returns but I told him that the pay stubs and letter from employer should be enough.

My wife has some funny observations about the self-important first-level clerks she dealt with at the embassy, but that's for another thread.

Congrats Blues Fairy!!! Is the 7 months from sending in the k-1 to interview? If so, I guess that isn't bad considering all the problems USCIS is going through now. What service center did your fiance send the k-1 documents to?

Thanks guys!!!  I'm very happy and relieved indeed.

We went through TX -> CA, 4 months from Noa1 to Noa2, then 1 month for NVC.  The good thing was that our case wasn't stuck in US-Sickos' mail room after petition was approved, like many cases are these days.  We were sent off to NVC right away.

Blues Fairy,

Splendid news! Welcome to America!  Welcome to Raleigh!

Your insights, intelligence and sarcasm at RWD impressed me very much.  I hope you continue to post about life in America.   A wedding photo for sure.

You have the ability to share some interesting insights about America that we may miss.  I do not claim to know everything about America and Americans, and I always appreciate observations made by intelligent newcomers (just as I hope RW listen to some AM about their observations of Russia).

Don't be a stranger.

Thanks Gator, you are one of those whose posts I always read with close interest, too.

Wedding - I don't know, not much time nor much enthusiasm to plan a big wedding.  But a nice dress, at least, I will have - I already had it made in Moscow according to my own design.  It hangs in my bedroom on so it's the first thing I see when I open my eyes.  :D

And Veuve Cliquot, of course.  In fact, I'm starting tonight!

Hey, BlueFairy,
Congratulations!!  I love the way you worded the final entry in the your original post.  Made me laugh a little, made my breath catch in my throat as well.  Very well written and such a wonderful outlook on such a big life changing event.

I do hope you continue to post here as I can learn so much from your experiences as you arrive and settle in.  Welcome to the USA.  We are certainly a quirky and somewhat rebellious bunch.  There will be days when you look around and think "How the heck do they get anything done here, bunch of crazy loons?"  Lord knows I have asked the same every once in a while.

I look forward to reading more from you.  Please stay involved in RWD.

God Bless you both.

Sincerely,
Dale
Thanks,
Dale N.

I'm back from a couple of very intense trips.  First the farewell trip to my home town of Novosibirsk and a short one-day trip from there to Barnaul to see my 77-year grandpa who still lives there.  In N-sk, I also met with my father whom I had not spoken with for many years.  So my debts are paid now; I can leave with peace.

Then I returned and on the same day my bassist arrived from Bremen, and we left by train for St. Pete to record the vocals and bass tracks for my album (due at the end of November).  I have to confess that during the entire 9 days I spent in the beautiful St. Petersburg, I didn't have a single chance to venture out and see the Hermitage or Palace embankment, or anything else, because all the time we were crammed in a tiny apartment of our sound producer, filled with smoke and dirty tea mugs, and recording, editing, mixing, drinking, smoking various things, and recording again.  We came back to Moscow and fell out of the train jaded and quite spent, and we still had a late club concert to play on the same night.

But at least something I will leave, before leaving, for my friends to enjoy and distribute.  It's good to wrap up my 5 years in Moscow with an achievement of a kind.

The date of my flight is moved back to Dec. 6(7) and the wedding, most likely, to the end of January.  We are still discussing the date and place.  Too many people to synchronize; seems almost unfeasible at this point.
