Anyone going to Poltava,... watch out for this one.
« on: October 24, 2007, 01:34:48 PM »

Hey guys sometimes there are somewhat out of the ordinary act's done by some women that are just an outright scam.  :'(

Here is the story. A couple guys, friends, are going to Eastern Ukraine recently, hitting a handful of cities.  They decide they want to meet a few ladies in Poltava.  I advised these guys, as I will advise the world, there is no other city in Ukraine or Russia which has the greatest number of complaints I get for ladies not looking anything like there photos.  Poltava stands alone with this dubious distinction.

So one of the guys, we'll call him John, wants to meet Yulia.  Yulia agrees to meet John. Yulia says she would like to meet at some Japanese place and John agrees.   John arrives, Yulia is pretty much on time but tell's John she cannot eat, she only has 30 minutes in which to talk to him before she has to return to work, but would it be ok if she ordered some food to go so she could talk to him during this time.  John says sure.

Yulia and John begin talking, the waitress comes and takes Julia's order.  After about 25 minutes of talking the waitress comes with a large sack of food.  Yulia accepts the food, talks to John for another few minutes and tells him she has to go now.

Yulia leaves, the check arrives.  ouch! Yulia ordered $80 worth of sushi.

Couldn't get the link to work ... but found her on this one (if it helps anybody out).

Sounds something like a date I had in Kharkov where the girl showed up with her 'just in from out of town' girlfriend ... and I ended buying dinner for both  :wallbash:

A girl has got to eat.  I suppose her boyfriend was hungry too.   :D

USCFAN, next time, just tell them you have something for the two of them to eat - back at your apartment.

To be fair, Vera (Alice owner) would be livid if she heard of this. I hope the guy told her about this. And yes, some of the agencies in Poltava airbrush the ladies photos. Maybe they are catching on to capitalism. Is McDonald's honest when they show the plump, juicy Big Mac in the TV commercial?

Having just seen the menu of a Japanese restaurant in Holland $80 of sushi will just cover lunch if the prices are equal. :-\
But $160 an hour is a high price for talking in Ukraine...even to a lawyer.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

$80 for sushi not bad price for Ukraine.  Sushi is very expensive in Ukraine.  I know because my fiance loves it.  Sushi for under $160 for two people is tough in Ukraine.

Jack,

That can't be right. Yulia's Angelika profile doesn't mention anything about her having a taste for sushi.  ::)

Four adults dined in Moscow last night on sushi, shashimi, a grilled main dish and dessert,  plus sake, wine, and green bamboo unpasteurized beer (me).  Total price of 4200 roubles (or $170).  Food was excellent, and the place was filled with beautiful women (and their Russian dates).  Name - Tanuki, but not in center city.

;D The good ole sushi scam .  Guys stop meeting girls for the first time in restaurants. Too many will use this as a means to simply get a meal they couldn't afford on their own.  I too went to meet a girl and she suggested meeting on a street corner. Once I got there ,she than said theres a place we could go . Up the block and she heads into the sushi place,in my head the date was about to end,but it got better as she also invited her two friends along on our "date".  One girl starts tapping the sticks on the table saying how hungry they were :D

I just took it all in,and told my "date" I'm leaving. In hindsite I should of sat across the street to see if they were going to stay there and eat. After all the one said she was really hungry LOL!  It's in my TR over at RW G F or something like that.

So remember  YOUR THE MAN ! You pick the place.  Seafood and sushi are not the places you take a chick on a first date.   A girl who has an interest in you will sip some tea, and have a dessert.

Don't be afraid of offending them, it's YOU who should be offended by their dishonest intentions.  Try it, it's quite amusing watching how pissed off they get ,when they can't scam a meal out of you  ! ;D

How can she be a scammer! Her profile says it was approved by stop-scammers.com!  :P

I LOVE sushi and can eat a lot of it and I have never eaten
$80 worth of sushi (by myself) If a little 110 pound woman ordered
that much it's definitely a scam. I would be surprised if the restaurant
wasn't in on at least part of the scam.

Just my two kopecks,

Bill

My question is how would you handle this?

Assuming you speak the language and you're presented with an $80 bill, what is the appropriate response?

No speakie the language?  I don't know the girl--she just sat down and struck up a conversation?

I heard of a similar scheme where the gal ordered a large amount of food and the gent wondered where she was going to put it.  IIRC she might have been part of the agency staff.  She wound up ordering doggie bags and taking the food back to the office for the staff.

First welcome to the forum, feel free to post a hello in the introductions and ice breaker section.

Second, my opinion to this is not to let it happen to start with. If a lady told me she didn't want to eat then I would
say "Ok, we should take a walk or simply have tea". I can't think of a reason to send her home with food on a first meeting
or date. Or something like "we can eat next time when you have more time."

Just my dva (two) kopecks
