Citizenship Day

City University of New York, the umbrella organization of the community college where my wife is taking science courses so she could get accepted into a nursing program is hosting a "citizenship day" in early November. 

They ask anyone who is married to a US citizen for three years and who has been physically present in the US for at least 50% of the time period to apply for citizenship. 

My wife will qualify.  I am encouraging her to attend.  As most of you are aware, she does not even have her I-485 approved ie. no green card.  The last time she spoke to the immigration officials they told her FBI name check could take 75 years.  I'll let you all know what they tell her when she comes back from the CUNY folks.  What we and our wives have to go through is all such a joke...........................

She needs three years of residency status to qualify. That is from the date of approval of the green card, as listed on the green card. NOT just three years in the US and married to the US citizen.  Just for clarification. . . .

Initial basic prerequisites for US citizenship are=

resident alien for 3 years if married to USC-five years for all others, including divorcees.

more than 1/2 the time present in the US during the qualifying period with no absence of longer than 180 days (more than 180 consecutive days out starts the clock over at zero)

good moral character

basic English language, US history and civics knowledge.

That is about it. I am not listing the exceptions.
