What name is your wife's other documents under?   SS, GC, DL, CC?   What name will she want to put on her Canadian passport?   I think it's easier to keep everything under one name.   As for the property in Russia you can prove your ownership with help of birth certificate, marriage certificate and change of name proof.

Or is she still in Russia?   :-\

My wife's permanent resident card is in her maiden name, but all of her other Canadian documents are now under her married name. Her citizenship card will likely be under her maiden name, but she will be able to get her passport under her married name. As she prefers the sound of my last name, and is using it for everything else in Canada, I do not doubt that she will choose to have her eventual Canadian passport under her married name. At that point, she will only have to use her maiden name when buying tickets to go to Russia. As for property, she already sold what she had in Russia.

Errrrrr....  I'm lost...    :-\   If she prefers your last name (aka her married name) why do you think she'll have Canadian passport in her maiden name?   :-\   Or did you miss "no" before "doubt"?   ;)

Ok, she goes to Russia on her Russian passport.   But what about Frequent Flyer miles?    What name she uses on those cards?

Thanks for pointing that out  :) Yes, I had forgotten the "no" and have corrected it. As for the travel miles, I can't see that being an issue. My wife is now on her way to Russia after 2.5 years. Once she returns, she does not plan on returning to Russia for a few more years. We will likely be traveling to other places more often, so the travel miles are not really that much of an issue.

Misha, I forgot to ask - doesn't this discrepancy create some problems when she has to show her PR card and let say her DL?

No, as she never has to show her PR card, except when she is returning to the country, and when she returns to Canada she does not have to show her driver's license. Other than that, in Canada, she never has to show her PR card anywhere. The only time she had to show her PR card was to prove her eligibility once for ESL courses, and a second when we went down to get her SIN card (which is now in her married name).
