Well it looks like I need someones help
« on: November 08, 2007, 07:13:55 PM »
Thank you all for being here.

My name is Christopher Lewis.
I have more questions than can be expresses here.

I am 40. divorced one month, separated two years, no children. I have bought my lawyer a Honda accord by now.

I decided to try  a few dating websites and began correspondence with a girl named Michelle Weakland, for about six weeks now. She says she is from Zvenigovo, Russia. Needless to say  I would like some advice. She seems very determined to visit me here in the USA. She initially wanted to meet in Europe, but since I do not have a passport, that would take almost six months. She says she is willing to come to the US to meet. She has sent me a copy of her passport, her address in Russia and a contract from a travel agency  that will take care of her visa.
Are women in their late twenties that motivated to  leave their country?
Should I give all the information to an agency that see if she is real?
Should I post all her information here or should I find an interpreter to evaluate the documents?

I have never thought of a relation with someone from the EU before but the idea fascinates me. My father grew up in a small Midwestern town that was mostly Polish. I was brought up with a strange tie or awareness to Europe, and I must admit that a Russiaian accent does something to me.

Thank you very  much,
Chris

On the US passport front ... I got mine back in August ... I paid a little extra and got mine in less than 6 weeks.
You can call me Steve ...

Chris, is she asks you for money for the visa than it is more than likely a scam.

Interesting name for being from Russia.  If she can come to visit that is great.  If she asks for money then run away.

well, her name on the passport is very different from the one that she has been using to correspond with me.  Should I post the JPG of her Passport?

Welcome to RWD, Chris.
and began correspondence with a girl named Michelle Weakland, for about six weeks now. She says she is from Zvenigovo, Russia.
Strangely French/Anglo-Saxon name for someone from:
Quote
Zvenigovo (Russian: Звени́гово) is a town in the Mari El Republic, Russia, located on the left bank of the Volga River 90 km south of Yoshkar-Ola. Population:14,239 (1989 Census).
Its proximity to Yoshkar-Ola, a renowned scammers' town, is also not comforting.

She says she is willing to come to the US to meet. She has sent me a copy of her passport, her address in Russia and a contract from a travel agency  that will take care of her visa.
And contact you soon after you agree, to inform you that unfortunately a last-minute snag has occurred and will you please send them $X.XXX, so that she can fly into your waiting arms ;)?

Rarely.

Don't bother, most likely her name is Ivan or Igor.

Ditto, and don't waste further money on this. It stinks to high heaven ;D.

Odd, is she an artist, to use a "nom de plume"?

Yea that is what I thought. My luck could never be this good. Does anyone want to see the passport / agency contract? I am not sure how to post a JPG.

Not much point to it, since the first is probably faked, and the second just something that ANYBODY could write. But for your information, you can attach a JPG by pressing the Additional Options... button when posting, and that will allow you to specify your file.

Chris, her chance on getting a tourist visa to America are nearly nil.

What site did you find her or did she find you at?

How many times did you talk to her on the phone?

Not much, as I said anybody can produce a piece of paper like that.

If you Google for her Russian name, you'll find:

Unfortunately, the link leads to a totally blank page. However, if you consider a part of the link (scams/scam-report.asp?scammer=klyueva& firstname=marina&city=zvenigovo), it probably means that she may have been already reported as a scammer. Not conclusive evidence in itself, but coupled with the rest ...

Anyway, you might do an instructive exercise: run her through our ScamCard (Scam Avoidance menu at left), and see if that raises any further red flags ;).

Chris, you are at the wistful thinking stage.  You are falling in love with the idea of a life with this young girl.

Be careful.  Chances are she is not real.

Russian girls cannot get a visa to the US. Almost impossible.

True, she could be naive and not realize she can't get a US visa.  But I doubt it.  It's also unusual she has an international passport.  Those are expensive and most girls don't have one.

Read the 10 commandments here.  Follow them.

If you feel like you must see her, expedite your passport and go visit her in her hometown.  Don't take her to a third country, like Turkey or Egypt.

If you do go see her, be alert.  And be sure to make arrangements with an agency in a diferent town in the event you don't click with her when you get to her town.

My best guess is that all of this is a scam.

Take some time off.  Read everything here.   Then come back and ask advice on how to do it best should you want to find a girl from the FSU.

Good luck.

~Si

I must admit that the I idea of finding someone fro a different country is an interesting idea. Lots to learn. I thing I will get a passport and see some of the world now that I am able.

Thanks,
Chris

newchris, I wouldn't trust the girl
but

why do you post copies of people's documents online?!Maybe she uses someone else's real passport copy.... would you like someone to post your passport information online to check if you are real?! Or maybe you are sure that if you think she is from Russia you can post her passport information, her credie card numbers with PINs or something...
This is the second time I see it here on RWD

newchriswv,

This may be the travel agency scam or maybe real.
If you pay to the agency then chance are higher its a scam.
If she's paying then go for it.
If she has a visa but needs a plane ticket then you buy the ticket here in her name, refundable or creditable for travel to you if unused.

If someone was using my passport fraudulently then I would like to know in any way possible.  Do maybe not so bad to post the pic.

Good luck to you newchriswv.

Thanks.
I removed the pic of the passport. I suppose that I do not have much experience with such things. I will wait for her next email to see which direction things go. I will not wire any  money or anything like that. But I did appreciate the  info about plane fare. I do not like to make assumptions about peoples motives. I always like to give people the benefit. I am still unsure about someones motivation to leave a country. Especially after everyone here has expressed such admiration for the FSU.

What site did you find her or did she find you at? I'm asking this because most sites where men who are not initially looking for a RW are usually easy to be scammed since they don't know it's difficult for a RW to come to America. A RW is a refreshing difference compared to what's available to them on local dating sites. These men, without passports, will start dreaming of having the RW land on their doorsteps easily. Of course the sex will be fantastic! It's okay to dream as long as you wake up to reality.

How many times did you talk to her on the phone? The reason I ask this is many men do not believe in much correspondence and can be had with this view. If a RW is really interested in you, she'd want to talk to you often. Plus, scammers and insincere women do not want to talk to you often or not at all. Phoning can reveal a lot.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

This is very obvious.

Michelle is not any kind of Russian name.

This person appears to have more than a few names.
http://www.global7russia.com/dating/inquiry.asp?q=4&lastname=Weaklan&Search=Search&s=1

Remember scammers target free dating sites where profiles are not verified / pre-screened. Sites where profiles are not verified is where all the scammers go to find naive men. These sites are good for practicing sending and receiving emails. Once you can do that its time to move on and find more serious ladies unless its just a from of entertainment without any real hope of accomplishing anything.

I hope I don't offend, but     I was on singlesnet.com. I just canceled. I was looking for locals and have been getting about one contact a week from FSU women. Most were very obvious but this one caught my eye and has not fit the pattern. I am just not sure if she is sincere or just really good. I have ordered a few books from the recommended reading list.
Thanks

OK what do you make of the contract.

Fake. A real Russian contract would have the business's stamp. In Russia signatures do not carry the same legal weight as they do in North America. Instead, each business and legal entity has a stamp that is used to demonstrate the authenticity of a document such as a contract. Given that this "contract" features not one stamp, I would automatically disqualify it as a worthless piece of paper and certainly a fabrication to facilitate a scam.

Newchriswv: I admire your openness regarding naivety and I notice you respond positively to warnings. Having been around (Although now long out of it) the dating "traps" for a while, I would suggest that almost without question you have the "Classic Scammer" in tow. There is nothing in what you have reported that shows any indication to me of this being a genuine husband seeking lady from Russia. Among many other things, the locality is infamous for scammer groups. Best given a big miss IMO.

I want to focus on your comments about seeing the world. Hear hear...!!! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by going this route. Russia and the FSU can be a fascinating place to explore and as a new traveller, I'd suggest you get hooked up with an "All service" agent. Thus you can have a tonne of fun and perhaps meet a few women along the way with no strings attached. You will come away with so much clearer picture of the situation in Russia that you IMO most likely will save yourself trips and money in the longer term if you do in fact decide to get serious about pursuing a Russian woman.

Very often, the less you try to achieve on the first trip, the more you actually will achieve.

All the best.

I/O
