A few pictures from Sevastopol on the storms over the weekend. CNN has a post about several ships going down also.

From what I have been reading, they have a major problem over there. Besides more than 10 ships sinking in almost 18 foot waves, an oil tanker has released 10's of thousands of gallons of oil into the Black Sea. Kinda like a mini Exxon Valdez.

Oh Shoot!!  I meant to ask my Olga about this today.  She's in Rostov, so I don't know if she got any of the storms.

Kyiv received a nice layer of snow out of this storm. Lugansk had strong easterly winds gusting to 45 mph from this storm too. Without a doubt the winds over the Black Sea were probably closer to 60 mph based off the weather pattern and maps I looked at. Very similar to the storm that sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior Nov 10 1975.

From what I have been reading, they have a major problem over there.

We've got flooding here, too - but nothing like that.  Alla happened to phoned her friend in Crimea yesterday but couldnt speak to her as she'd been called in to help with the emergency services.  All seems quieter tonight.

Just my luck when there's an off chance we might have to make our own emergency trip over there.  What's it like in Simferopol, Scott?

From what I'm hearing they are still getting some rain but nothing too heavy and the winds have died down but still gusting at times.

We were lucky in Odessa.  No power outage, just strong winds and lots of rain.  I woke up to some snow the other day.

Not a lot but still the thought leaves a empty feeling inside.   :D
