Dresses.
« on: November 13, 2007, 09:11:14 AM »
I have now had 2 ladies from the Ukraine be worried about wedding dresses in the USA.

Can the same style of wedding dresses be found in the USA as the Ukraine. And is there any significant price difference?

If you live in a big city like New York where there's a big FSU community, they are sure to have shops that specialize in providing FSU related items including FSU style wedding dresses. Maybe there's some type of internet yellow pages you could flip through to find what you're looking for. Google maybe?

HiTech

My wife bought her dress in Russia (small city in Russia, not Moscow). It was a stunning dress and cost 15,000 rubles. The same dress would have cost at least twice as much in Canada.

Maybe it's because I didn't pay enough attention, but I really didn't see much difference betwen wedding dress styles in the US vs. Ukraine other than the price.  For those in the know, is there really a difference? (and no, I'm not planning to use this information myself)

Hi Tech,

If you go to Vegas, they have dozens of dresses to choose from.

Not a bad idea.

You can spend as much or as little as you want.   We have been looking at them ourselves.   You can find dresses from $ 500.00 to thousands or tens of thousands in the bridal stores.    You can get one mail order for hundreds or go on eBay and see ones that look decent for under $ 50.00 new.   The closest we got to the eBay ones were looking on the site.   My daughter mail ordered hers last year for $ 65.00.   VWRW does not have an interest in  traditional wedding dresses.

       Hitech,

How old is your fiance?  She just looks very young in her pic. Probably much younger than her actual age.

Hi Tech,

Her looking 20 will haunt you for a long time.

Marina is 32 but looks about 24 or 25.  She gets so mad everytime they ask for an ID at a cafe or bar.

She finds it insulting; I would like it personally.

So get ready for the same treatment, and likely the same attitude.

LOL!! No not at all!  As everyone has confirmed she looks much younger than her true age. I think it's a very good problem to have. She  has youthful looks, yet mature.

This is a good point.  My ex's dress cost over $5,000.00 new and sold for pennies on the dollar.

I just returned from Bangkok where my fiancee had a nice dress made for $350.  It would probably cost about $1000 in the US.  It was in the "western" style and it took her about 2 hours to select the design after looking at many in different stores.  Are you so sure that she wants a Ukrainian dress over a Western style?

Other than colors are they that different from each other?  I didn't notice a whole lot of difference between Russian and American wedding dresses.  Most ladies have an idea of what they would like to wear and I can't see why they would not be able to find one they like in the US.
