Crazy Bear, I was driving Marina to work today when a cop pulled up behind us on the freeway.  I checked my speed-- 60.  But was not sure what the speed limit was, so slowed and changed lanes.  Officer passed me; we saw a sign saying the speed limit was 65.  I sped up, but the squad car was not a quarter a mile ahead.  Traffic was moving at 80.  But no one was being stopped.

Marina laughed and said "cops in Ukraine would LOVE these speeders! Money, money, money!"

She continued "it's like a conveyor belt spitting out money, all these cars.  Police would be so happy.  They would stop cars all day long and be rich!"

Let me get this straight. You were in the fast lane going 5 mph under the speed limit at 60 mph while traffic in the slow lane was moving at 80 mph the whole time? Simoni!!! Didn't you hear everyone honking at you? It should be illegal to drive with a RW in your sight. A distraction...but a beautiful distraction.

Well, some people and women after all may pay a great attention to shoes for some reasons.

Probably because the shoes do form a sort of a 'postament' for the whole body figure. When we look at the person full size, the shoes are visually perceived as a 'basis' from where the body actually makes a start. May be some people look at the person from bottom to top, and some look from the top to bottom.

Some people perceive shoes to be the base for the whole personal image. Many people think that the shoes should be as expensive as one can afford. For some women, shoes are a sort of fetiche.

For Russia in particular, fine shoes also may make a favorable contract to poor and dirty street pavements. In Russian eyes, a man in shiny shoes standing in dirt may be impressive

I never really thought about the shoe thing-I just wear comfortable, good sturdy construction, basic colors (black, brown mainly) US size 14 (15 sometimes).  Because of my foot size and the quality I usually pay anywhere from $125-$250 for a pair of shoes, but they will last from 3-4 years until they  need to be resoled. If a woman looks at my shoes first and expects to see Gucci or some other over priced name then she will be disappointed.

I'm not sure just why it's a big deal but I do know of one Ukrainian woman who dropped a Canadian who came to meet her just because of his shoes, so it does happen.  At the very least, make sure your shoes are clean before you go out every time.  If I even have so much as a spot on mine, my wife sends me to clean them off before she'll let me out the door.  I made the huge mistake of wearing tennis shoes on my first trip out (white ones yet!) but thankfully my wife overlooked this and I caught on quickly, especially when I saw that I was the only man in the streets wearing them.

If you don't like it, or have arguements why they don't matter, then guess what?  You are doomed to lots of arguements from the typical fsu woman.  And disapproval, big time!
