Hey guys I just wanted to share an agency in the United States that has the best prices to Europe.  I searched for 7 months before a coworker with a German wife told me about this site.  I contacted the agency and "Autumn" made some recommendations that save me an additional $100.00.  If someone knows of a better deal, please let me know.  The link is

http://www.atlanticfellowship.com/

P.S After June 1st the fares go up considerably

I did not search it too extensively, but the JFK to Moscow round trip quote I received was over $1000 which I consider pricey.

In June of 04 I traveled from Washington DC to Odessa with a overnight stay over in Vienna (Hotel paid for by Austrian Airlines) and the total cost with all of the taxes and such was  850.00 USD.  The middle of the week and non prime tourist season (which starts June 1st) saves money.  After June 1st the price jumps $300 -$400 USD.

My experience has been that different companies at different times can offer the best rates.  I would not look to only one service and assume that they are the best price.  "My mamma told me......you betta shop around"

Some additional places to check that I have had good luck with in the past include:

Globus Travel:  Phone (718) 646-5600

Russian-American Consulting:   Phone (877) 268-2677

www.russiahouse.net

Usually I prefer to speak to a person directly rather than just go to their website because they always seem to lure you in with a low airfare on their website but they never seem to have availability when you go to check it.  What a pain in the butt.  I prefer to bypass all that nonsense and just get to the bottom line.

Crazy Bear - Try Dimitri or Zhlota at the Russian National Group based in New York City.  I find they usually have the best ticket prices on Aeroflot to Moscow and back or using Aeroflot for a trip from the USA through Moscow to another city within Russia.  212-575-3431.  Tell them Bruce from Brooklyn expects you to give them the bottom line best price!

Hey Bruce, I appreciate the offer, but I'm planning on going to Odessa not Moscow.

Do they have trips to Odessa?

You need a Ukrainian specialist consolidator - usually based out of NYC.  They exist but I can not get you one right now.   As long as you get a Ukrainian specialist ticket consolidator you will get the best price to Ukraine.  They usually have deals with one or another individual airline into Ukraine.  So, it is best to try a bunch of them.  I have got to run until later in the week, hopefully I'll find you something after Friday if you do not find one prior to that.

a good resourse for traveling anywhere is www.kayak.com   Usually when I do a search there Orbitz comes up with the best price.  I just booked tickets from Pittsburgh to N. Novgorod through JFK and Moscow for $ 780.00   That is for travel late March.   When I went to Kiev in December the ticket from Pittsburgh to Kiev was around $ 700.00   Sometimes moving your trip a day or so can make a big difference in price or connectons.   I cut a one day layover on my January trip to N. Novgorod by returning a day later.  On the one I just booked for my March trip I cut 5 hours off the return and $ 50.00 off the price by coming back one day later.

I travel a lot, and I think the very best deals are at skyauction.com
you bid for your ticket...and I once flew to Vienna roundtrip for $150.  It is all in the timing and luck of your bid.  but the airline service on American was the same as the guy next to me who paid $900

Another great link for best prices (if you wish to buy your ticket outright) is http://www1.mobissimo.com/travel/search_airfare.php

They give you about 100 price quotes for each request.

Just for the fun of it I checked on Mobissimo for the trip I booked through Orbitz two days ago.   I think this is close enough that the comparison is fair.   The lowest price and flight I was offered on Mobissimo was through Aeroflot and the fare was $ 872.01 versis $ 785.35 on Orbitz.  The Orbitz flight was Delta.   I would probably rather fly Delta than Aeroflot anyway.

To me the best thing is try as many places as you can and sometimes you will hit the right flight with the right place.  Orbitz has been the lowest price on my last three trips at least.

Michael,

Since dnipropetrovsk is not an international airport, you won't find international airlines flying into Dnipro.  Best bet is to fly into Kiev or Odessa and then catch a flight into Dnipro on a domestic airline.

It's either that or take the train into Dnipro;)

Be prepared for a ride in some of the world's oldest airplanes if you do this.  I once took a trip to Turkey in a Boeing 737-200, ( I think it was serial #1), it looked ok sitting on the ramp in Vienna, but as I approached the aircraft I noticed it had been recently repainted.  With house paint and rollers~!!!  Inside it still had the logo of it's original buyer, some small east coast regional commuter airline (Piedmont??)long since out of business.  But it flew ok, but I'm sure we left some parts on the runway when we made a stop in Odessa.

Heck I had one flight out of Kiev where we had to load our own bags on the plane just like you do with a bus.    Of course on the subject of old planes I was on a Virgin Atlantic flight from Belguim to London years ago and it was an old, old American plane with a "stewart" call button.   I was glad it could still fly.

Yep TurboFly... Oooops TurboGuy...

Don't worry more about fly with old American plane from Belgium... Virgin express don't exist anymore... and Sabena too... maybe because the old american plane was too much expensive for repair...

Now, the new Belgium national compagny use new european plane... the well know Airbus... NO, YOU DON'T NEED TOO LOAD YOUR OWN BAGS... it is Airbus and not Air-Bus

Great!  Maybe I will fly from the US to Belgium and then take the new Airbus to Kiev :)  Better than some old dumpy plane!  But of course, I'll get the old plane on the domistic flight...but better than a bus :)

Bruno--I found a good deal to Brussels for less that $400.  Do you know the fare to Kiev or the airline?  I find Sabino or PS, but they show only one flight at 8 pm.  I land at 7:30 a.m. and that it too long a layover!  thanks

Acrzybear - Sorry, really busy this week.  Anyway, I like Panorama travel based out of NYC for travel to ukraine. I think the way to go is Austrian Air going via Vienna. If I remember correctly it is usually about $200 more to Odessa. The number is 1-212-741-0033 ext. 107 for Katerina Krasnobaev. She is from ukraine. There are other agents from ukraine as well as Russia. I like working with Katerina because she is patient and I could go through every possible trip iteration with her without her getting angry. You can email info@panoramatravel.com

The off side of Austrian Air is that you often have to lay over in Vienna on your return.  I have flown them twice to Kiev and got stranded in DC for two days on the way over and had to walk two miled from the layover hotel they put me up in that was in the middle of nowhere to have dinner.    The second time I was stranded again in Vienna for a day but had a nice hotel, of course I had to pay for it myself and my bags were lost nearly forever.   I looked pretty grubby when I got on the plane again in Vienna although some people probalby think I always look grubby.
