A technical question about "A Foreign Affair." Anyone used it?
« on: January 04, 2008, 05:45:48 PM »
I didn't know where else to put this question, so I thought I'd try here.  I've been using "A Foreign Affair" for about a month to send out some 50+ e-mails to ladies.  I thought it strange that I didn't get a single response, not even a "no thanks."  They had their technical support look in to it, and they said my e-mails were being filtered out by the system because my "From" field had more characters in it than just my e-mail address (AFA uses a remailing system to keep the girl's real e-mail addresses private).  In other words, this is what my "From" field normally looks like:

Frank Jones <frank92@zzzz.com>

They're telling me I have to change the "From" field to:

frank92@zzzz.com

I've looked in to it, and there's apparently no way to do this with my e-mail provider (gmail), and I don't think it's possible with most e-mail programs/servers.  That's just basic coding as far as I know.  Has anyone else had this problem using AFA?

Very few people here look at AFA as a viable option for anything much less know about their technical issues. Their moral and ethical problems have been discussed ad nauseum here and elsewhere.

The way to succeed is not via AFA, aka loveme.com, aka beautiful brides, aka god knows how many other aliases.

I can put you in touch with quite a few people who know all about them but that wouldnt get your technical question answered for you. . . . .

I used AFA some a very long time ago.   I would suggest you listen to William.   Don't worry so much about how to format your address and instead read all you can here.   You will learn enough reading here in a few hours to save yourself thousands of dollars and several years in your search.

Addressing the purely technical part, allowing addressing schemes such as:

Frank Jones <frank92@zzzz.com>

would open up possibilities of 'abuse'... such as

1_305_555_1212<frank92@zzzz.com>

giving the ultimate recipient your home phone number.

My bad.  Since Elena's Models seems to be fairly well regarded, I had thought a service they recommend would likewise be pretty good.  The problem is that every FSU dating website/service is regarded as a fraud somewhere on the Internet, I've even seen Elena's listed as such.  I guess I just don't know what to believe anymore.  Might just need to stick to eHarmony.

You are saying that Elena's Models recommended AFA to you.   I guess anything is possible but I had not heard that before.

I am not quite comprehending this.

If Elena's seems fairly well regarded, why not just stick with Elena's.   For the record I met my fiancee through Elena's.

RW are not for everyone and there are people who are better off sticking with eHarmony.

Yeah, for the record, Elena's recommendations for best and safest sites out there:

As to the other comment; I was just looking for a wider range of options outside of one database.

If you are looking to connect in a party atmosphere try Jack (Firstdream).  AFA's time has long gone.

Party atmosphere is definitely not my deal.  I'd rather have a quiet dinner or coffee with one woman.
