Schengen visa and entry point
« on: January 19, 2008, 05:41:44 AM »
Hello,

My girlfriend and me have planned to be in Paris beginning of march. She can have easily a Schengen Visa with her work, but not issued by the destination country (issued by Denmark). Her flight is direct, Kiev -> Paris.

Does some members knows if this is possible to enter a Schengen country with a Schengen visa not issued by the destination country ?

Should not be a problem.  IIRC there is space on the visa applications to indicate the port of arrival. MIL, FIL, wife and kids have used both Germany and Italy to arrive here.

Is this anything like the Irving Schwartz visa in the US?

Sorry, just joking. Best of luck to you.

I beg to differ!

The word in UK immigration circles - cos we have to apply for Schengen visas too if non-EU, is that if you don't spend some Euros in the State that issued the visa you chances of getting another visa diminish significantly.

I dunno how they monitor this with the lack of border controls but it happens a lot.

Ste,
You're confusing us.  Are you a British citizen.  If so, you don't need a visa to visit Schengen countries.  Others do have to show bank statements as part of the application process.  If an applicant has too few funds, maybe they are denied, but the funds requirement is pretty small really...less than $100 for each day you intend to stay.

No, I don't, but any non-EU partner in UK does. Also as long as we are married and have proof the visa is free and no proof of funds is required.

What I was trying to say is that it's not a good idea to say get a Schengen visa from the French and not go to France on it, indeed I'd go so far as to say you should really enter the Schengen zone on it.

I know that's not what the rules say, but you can imagine the thoughts of the individual states, issuing free or cheap visas and getting no return!

I knew one RW in the St. Piter area who travelled ever few months to Europe.  She had a multiple entry Schengen visa issued by Finland and always took a bus to Helsinki to catch a Finn Air flight to her ultimate destination.  She did this rather than take a direct, less expensive and shorter flight departing from Russia.

Finally I told her my secret plan in order to be sure all will be good... She get danish business visa and letter from danish firm telling she will have to see subsidiary in France. She will land in Paris, we will fly to venice, be back a few days in Paris before she goes to Denmark... Answer from french consulate, this is ok the time you do not exceed the number of days allowed.  I hope all will be good... news in trip report next month ...

I always thought that one can get a Schengen visa from a European country which automatically means that that country will be a port of entry. I might be rong but how about this link?

Nastya, your link is rather out-of-date, it doesn't even mention the new acquisitions since a couple of months ago, these are more recent: http://www.visafirst.com/french_schengen_visa_FAQ.asp and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Agreement.

However, there is a certain confusion of terms that I am in no position to clarify, having NO direct experience on the subject: official Schengen visa categories vary on the basis of length (question 22 on attached form) rather than purpose of stay (question 29). Question 32 (Border of 1st Entry) seems to imply, as BC mentioned, that you can enter a Schengen country (France in the case of Docetae's G/F) even if the Schengen country issuing the visa is different (Denmark). Given the above, once in France she should be free to travel to other Schengen countries (i.e. Italy).

Just my It£ 2 worth ;).
