Dan, go to Antwerpen in Belgium, the majority of hooker are from FSU... the positive side is that some normal FSU shop have open around the working place of hooker...

But the majority of them are not from Russia or Ukraine... but country like Albanie or ex-yougoslavia... in Turkey, in the harem, you find a lot of Ukrainian ladies...

I would take issue with the title of this thread.  Rarely, if at all, are UK citizens the traffickers.  I'll not name nationalities here, but the Balkans, fed by FSU locals tend to be the actual traffickers.  We are at the end of a long and tortuous road across Europe.

Considering....
1)   the UK is as about as far from the FSU one can get in Europe
2)   we are an island
3)   we are not in Schengen (EU visa zone)
4)   we aim to have quite strict conditions of entry
- I would think it remarkable if the figures for other EU countries are not correspondingly higher, if not in actual nos. then as % of population.
 
How many women from Latin America are similarly trafficked/employed in North America?  Or women from, say, the north-east highlands of Thailand to the coastal resorts, for our (western) edification.

You are correct that the SOURCE of the trafficking is elsewhere. This report focused on the end user of the trafficked women. The REAL scourge (IMO) was the guy, at the source, who talked about how they convince beautiful young women to submit to this lifestyle - through use of gang rape.

The flip side of this coin is that not long ago, there was a Washington Post article which served to debunk many of the claims some groups have made about how wide-spread is the trafficking that goes on. Some groups, it seems, have leveraged those claims to generate grant money - and then, have nothing to spend the grant money on when they cannot find affected women.

Anyway - when it happens - and it clearly DOES happen, it is an abomination on any sense of civility or morality.

Not fully agree... the user is guilty... without user, no business... mainly, one of the main responsible are state... in a lot of country, being a hooker is not reconize like a job... state make a lot of cash with tax... bij example, here in Belgium, hooker place are for taxe like a cafe...

Long time ago, very long time ago, our hooker was from Belgium and near country... several of them have choose the job... now, a lot of hooker are drugs user... not by choice but because they was forced to use drugs during the "training"... after these, they are more easy to control...



Second problem is the violence of the pimp from FSU... previously, when a hooker was speaking to police, she was receiving some "correction" from the pimp... they was trying not to much hurt the lady because of the business value... now, mafia from Albania kill directly the lady... for example...

How these women come here... mainly with contract of exotic dancer make by local guy... again our responsability...

Most of the girls are Moldavian -from the Russian  speaking part - or "the" Ukraine, and the locals of course refer to them as Russian !
