In reference to socials

Gentlemen,

I am new here, so I need some advice. I am curious about those socials that dating agencies put on.  I am curious on how many, or if any women are actually looking for a serious relationship or are they invited or working for the agency to entertain the men.  It seems to me that they are always several hundred women there. Of course I have only seen photos so I really don't know. Also, I have looked at photos of some women on dating sites, and a few of them are wearing rings on their marriage finger. Is it a custom or something else. It would discourage me in contacting them and if they are single, why are they advertising the ring.

Would that be the ring finger on their right or their left hand?  In the FSU, wedding bands are worn on the right hand.  A divorced person will sometimes move the ring to their left hand.

Also, if a photo or negative is flipped over, a person's right and left are swapped.

Ignore the rings, they may well just be decorative.  Even if they are married, their "Married finger" is on the right hand, not our custom of left hand.  If there is a plain gold band on the left hand - then maybe they are married, if its fancy, its probably just decorative.

Some men have luck at social, many prefer to avoid them.  Statistics on intent are impossible to come by, but the number I use is about 70% of the ladies at the social are simply professional daters.  Perhaps 25% are first time attenders, some out of curiosity, some seriously looking.  Thats for the big socials that AFA, EC, and a few others put on.

I would generally agreee with Kevin's assessment and apportioning of the women at socials.  I and a number of other men I have polled over the years seem to generally agree that the majority of women at the socials are not looking for a serious relationship.  I have also talked with about about a dozen Russian women about the socials.  Generally, Russian women hold the socials in a great degree of contempt.  So, what kind of a woman would attend the socials.  Here is another breakdown:

25% are sincerely looking for a serious relationship.  Many of those are first time attendees, who will probably never return again to another social (out of disgust).  Others are chronically unattached, and attend the socials on a prayer.  Others are older women (usually with children), who have few if any alternatives locally.

25% are complete sharks. Real maneaters.

50% in the middle consist of women who could go either way, depending upon whom they meet.  They will attend the socials for something to do, maybe only for the free food and drinks.  If they meet a guy to whom they are greatly attracted, they might pursue things legitimately.  Or maybe not. If not, watch out.  These same women will readily turn into opportunistic predators -- at any time.  They will prey upon men whose company they can tolerate.  They might try to "play you" for a dinner, or for a few gifts, a visit to a tourist trap, or maybe ask you for a trip or some money.  I've experienced each of these scenarios.  It is hard to say what any particular woman might do with with any particular guy.  Maybe she will just ignore you.  If so, count yourself luckly.  She might even think that she is attracted to you upon meeting, but on a first or second date, might decide she was wrong, and begin simply playing you then, or later on.  

In summary, chances of meeting someone at a social who is both sincere and to whom you are attracted is, in the opinion of many experienced men, very small.  There are always exceptions to the rule, but out of a crowd of 300 women at a social, you are likely to find only 5 or 6 who might have some potential.  Of course, many of the other 20 or 30 men at the social will also key in on those same 5 or 6.  

Some men speak glowingly about the socials.  To me, it seems that they simply enjoy getting attention from some of the Russian women at the socials, even if they have little real hope of finding a serious relationship via these means.  Some attend several socials, but seem to experience the same lack of success.  

If you just want to kill an evening, it can be interesting.  But, IMO, it is unlikely to be productive.

You have social and social... the industrial system with a lot of woman that you don't know... of little personal social organized with woman who meet your choice ( matchmaking )
