It is not guns that are ruining and ending these kids lives.  The apathy of family and society is the sole root cause.
I always wonder about such a justification of continuing the free access to weapons.
If the kids can get access to nothing more than a knife, people will still die. But to kill 15 people with a knife is pretty hard even for a deranged teen.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Shadow,

My statement was not pro gun or whatever.

One or a hundred, tragedy is tragedy.

Society has a tendency to go in the right direction.  We still tolerate tens of thousands of deaths on the highway, much reduced though by seat belt laws, car safety etc etc.

I remember the time when folks refused to wear seatbelts or helmets.. too uncomfortable, too restrictive, yes.. even unconstitutional.

One day, the threshold will be reached and things will change despite this or that Amendment.. -after all they are all being pissed upon anyway.

One murder, is one murder too many, whether in the US, Russia or anywhere else. It has been going on since we came out of the trees and will continue until man is extinct. One could easy ask why do some Muslims strap bombs to themselves and murder innocent people?  One could start a thread saying "Muslims in the mideast have got use to blowing themselves up".  Nobody gets "used" to such things. It's the unstable minds that commit acts of murder, and trying to use reason to understand, will only lead to failure.

It's not about the type of weapon that these dysfunctional people use, but their bizarre thought process of being forever famous by causing as much destruction as possible. They have no intention of surviving their acts, in fact, in order for them to be successful, they must also die. So take away the guns and knives, and these kids will instead strap a bomb full of ball bearing and nails around themselves, blow themselves up and kill even more. To these demented people, guns are a sign of power and control. If guns are not available, then bombs strapped to their bodies will serve the same purpose. Terror and infamy are what it's all about.

Jazzy,
There's not much any nation can do to stop senseless murders or crime. USA incarcerates the most people per capita and Russia is #2. One could say we incarcerate so many people because we have the most criminally insane here and another can say USA is doing more to curb crime than others by putting our criminally insane in prison at a higher rate instead of letting them walk the streets freely.

There are certainly less businesses and dwellings in America with less bars on windows and a single front entry door compared to FSU where most places have bars on windows and two front entry doors with one steel reinforced. I suspect people in America do feel safer in this environment compared to their counterparts in the FSU. I have 5 sliding glass doors in my home that could easily be entered into with a rock. I don't feel a need to but bars around my home. I am thinking about putting a sign on the window saying the home is protected by a Smith and Wesson home security system. The fact citizens are allowed guns may discourage a lot of crime. Any nation that invades the US will continue to have a tough time if they get past our military.

My fiancee got robbed in St. Petersburg and Andrew in Estonia got bashed on the back of the head when getting robbed. He was laying unconscious for hours in the snow and luckily he didn't freeze to death. What can governments do to stop all this? Not much except to punish the criminals after the crime has been committed.

Could guns be the problem? The US is nowhere near the number one spot when it comes to murder.

There's always a certain risk in life that is out of your control whether someone wants to take your life or you die in an automobile accident. Certainly what happened is a tragedy but to solve the problem by throwing money at it by posting a cop at every classroom is overreacting to something that is rarer than getting struck by lightning.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

These 2 quotes appear to contradict each other, but are worth examining together.

When the Columbine shootings occurred, it was news for weeks.. it was covered to the nnth degree. Every detail that could possibly be found out, has been found out, and the boys that did this became heroes to the kids who also didn't fit, or were picked on... some of these kids became future killers and inspiration for others.. and this continues on and on.

Perhaps, apathy by family or society to these individuals lead to them thinking of a way to "get even", but there is no apathy to these events, in fact the total opposite, and I think the media frenzies only lead to future events.

What's strange, is that often people will commit suicide.. leave a note explaining everything, but these things are not made public, because that would give someone who was thinking about suicide an incentive.. If they commit suicide and leave a note, everyone will read their words.. but these shootings at schools are treated differently, they have to find the reason, and make it public.. usually it's some stupid thing.. so the next guy with his stupid reason knows that it will be investigated and everyone will know his reason.. and he will be famous too.

Maybe apathy is not such a bad thing.

Only 1 avatar has been harmed in the making of this post.. and in my defense.., avatar torture is a "grey area" and has only been used in this case to extract information.. and besides, isn't golf just self induced torture anyway ?

Jazzy,

You want to know the bottom
line reality/reasons for campus shootings like the recent one
at NIU and last year at Va. Tech (and crime and debauchery
in general in the USA)?

I think the reality and the reasons are laid out very well by
my sparring partner in his latest editorial:

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56619

Pay particlar attention to the last two headings "Why kids kill kids" and "Religion and morality: indispensable supports".

IMO, the same realities (fallen people, fallen culture) equally apply to the problems and issues existant in the FSU causing different but sometimes similar problems and issues....

There are no just and righteous Nations. Only good people spread out
amongst the Nations of the Earth. Having said that, I still maintain that some
countries are more screwed up than others.   ;D
