Agency Owners are Welcome at RWD
« on: August 07, 2005, 05:33:50 PM »
Maybe it will help if I offer some clarification of  my position towards agency owners on RWD.

I have always welcomed agency owners, translators, personal guides, travel agents - and any other individuals/organizations offering services to members of the RWD.

As I see it, they provide some of the very best information around as to the current status of things in-country.

Yes, it is important for the reader to 'index' his acceptance of comments from agency owners with a full appreciation of the potential profit motive - but that does not render the advice they are offering invalid. It is just another factor to weigh as you make your decisions.

So . . . the way I see it is:

* Agency owners are welcome as contributing members of RWD and are expected to behave in a non-commercial manner and offer advice to the best of their ability.

* If an agency owner wishes to make a commercial post, they have available the Member to Member Exchange section of the board which was established for exactly that purpose.

* Obviously, competitive disputes directly between agency owners are NOT to erupt on the board - that is what the PM system and email is for.

Let me know of any questions.

Kevin,

Some members like yourself, Bruno, Jack, and a couple of others, have openly identified themselves as agency owners. There may be other members who are also agency owners who have not identified themselves. While I have a good many tools for rooting out bad actors, they are a bit onerous to use and it isn't practical to initiate a search without some reason.

I think the baseline ought to be that is someone wants to identify themselves as an agency owner - that is great. They are up-front and merit some credit for being forthright with their activities. If someone is an agency owner but has not identified themselves, they are treated like any other member so long as they don't run afoul of the board rules.

If you have any suspicions or concerns, just drop me a PM and I will look into it.

I think that agency owner are very good know here... the problem can be other... on the side of customer... some customer can be pushed by agency owner to make wonderfull post over the agency he use and bad post to other agency... how it can be possible ? Very simple, some % of reduction on a planned tour can help...

I accuse nobody but it is almost impossible to trust everybody... when i see a members who make only one or two post for attack or defend a agency, i am suspicious... If it is a post of a regular members who for one time write something over agency, i go read it and more easily trust him...

So, again, use your brain for see what can be true or lie... of indirect publicity... in anycase, honesty from agency is always rewarded ;)
